Optical fiber connector - Part 3: Type SC
1 Scope
This Part specifies the terms, definitions, classifications, graphics, mating
dimensions, end faces, optical performance, materials and environmental
compliance requirements, test methods, quality assessment procedure,
marking, packaging, transportation, storage requirements, for Type SC optical
fiber movable connectors (hereinafter referred to as connectors).
This Part applies to Type SC optical fiber movable connector products.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) is applicable to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions as defined in YD/T 2152-2010, as well as the
following terms and definitions, apply to this document.
for toxic and hazardous substances shall be tested, in accordance with the
requirements of SJ/T 11365-2006. The results shall meet the requirements of
Table 2 in SJ/T 11363-2006.
5 Quality assessment procedures
5.1 Classification of quality assessment procedures
The quality assessment procedure includes appraisal approval procedure and
quality consistency inspection.
5.2 Appraisal approval procedures
5.2.1 Initial manufacturing stage
The initial manufacturing stage is the manufacturing stage, where the parts
constituting a single component are assembled into a type SC connector.
5.2.2 Components with similar structure
In order to implement appraisal approval procedure and quality consistency
inspection, the components with similar structure are grouped, according to the
following limits.
Components with similar structure shall:
a) It has the same mating surface size;
b) It is made of basically same material;
c) It is manufactured according to basically same design;
d) It is manufactured using basically same technology and method;
e) It adopts the same optical fiber fixing technology;
f) It adopts the same fiber optic cable fixing technology;
g) It adopts the same centering technique.
They may:
a) Use different types of optical fibers;
b) Use fiber optic cable sizes with different diameters.
5.2.3 Approval procedures
5.2.3.1 Quality inspection of fixed samples
Perform inspections in accordance with the requirements in Table 12. Once the
inspection is successfully completed, all specification products, which are
submitted as structurally similar components, will be appraised and approved.
a) Sample:
The sample, to be authenticated, shall be a complete set of connectors,
which are made of a single-mode fiber with the smallest mode field
diameter OR a multi-mode fiber with the smallest core diameter, which are
specified for the optical fiber used in the connector. After completing the
inspection of the groups "0" and "1" samples, the other groups of samples
shall be randomly selected, from the group "0" samples; THEN, they are
combined with the clean adapter samples, to form the required pigtail type
or jumper type test sample group. After placing it at room temperature for
2 hours, measure the insertion loss and return loss of each sample group,
respectively, as the initial value of the sample group before the test. The
indicators meet the requirements of serial number a, in Table 11 in clause
4.5.3.
b) Test:
Carry out the test, according to the method and sequence, which are
specified in Table 12. These samples or sample groups shall meet the
requirements of optical performance and mechanical environmental
performance, which are specified in this clause.
c) The optical cable has a smooth and bright appearance, without impurities
or damage; the printing is clear; the color conforms to the product
requirements.
6.3 Dimensions
In order to ensure the consistency of the mechanical and optical properties of
the product, in the required environment, AND to ensure its versatility and
interchangeability, the size of the mating surface of the product shall meet the
requirements of this standard.
6.4 Measurement and test conditions
6.4.1 Single-mode connector measurement and test light source
Single-mode connector's measurement and test use LD light source. The peak
wavelength is 1.31 µm/1.55 µm. In order to eliminate the influence of the
cladding mode on the measurement, a Φ30 mm small circle is made on the
pigtail, which is connected to the light source's plug. The wavelength of the light
source (the lower limit of the spectral line) shall be longer than the cut-off
wavelength of the optical fiber used.
6.4.2 Multimode connector measurement and test light source
When measuring the multi-mode connector, LED light source is used. The
