Foreword
This Standard was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaced YB/T 5198-2004 Steel Wires for Elevator Ropes. Compared with YB/T
5198-2004, the major content changes of this Standard are as follows.
--- Change the standard name into “Steel Wire for Lift Ropes”;
--- Expand the diameter range of the steel wire;
--- Add the terms and definitions;
--- Delete the tag example;
--- Add technical requirements for steel wires other than the outer layer of the strands in
elevator steel wire ropes;
--- Delete the 1180MPa strength level and add the 1960MPa strength level;
--- In repeated bending test of steel wires, diameters are divided by group intervals;
--- Add the repeated bending value of steel wires with diameters of ϕ0.50~1.80mm; and add
the repeated bending value of steel wires with diameters of ϕ1.81~3.50mm;
--- Add zinc layer requirements;
--- Add batching rules and requirements for packaging, storage and transportation;
--- Modify the quantity of sampling.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Steel of
Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 183).

Steel Wire for Lift Ropes
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, technical requirements, test methods,
inspection rules, packaging, storage and transportation, marking and quality certificates of steel
wire for lift ropes.
This Standard applies to steel wire for lift ropes with a nominal diameter of 0.15mm~3.50mm.
