Ampoules Made of Middle Borosilicate Glass Tubing
This Standard is applicable to color-ring and dot-nick easy-to-break ampoules
made of middle borosilicate glass tubing.
[Appearance] TAKE appropriate amount of this product; in the light of natural
light, visually INSPECT from front. It shall be colorless and transparent or brown
and transparent; there shall be no obvious glass defects; no cracks are allowed
on any part. The color point of dot-nick easy-to-break ampoules shall be marked
in the center above the nick, and the deviation from the center line shall not
exceed ± 1.0 mm.
[Identification]* (1) Coefficient of linear thermal expansion. TAKE
appropriate amount of this product, DETERMINE according to Tests for
Coefficient of Mean Linear Thermal Expansion (YBB00202003-2015) or Tests
for Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion (YBB00212003-2015). It shall be
(3.5 ~ 6.1) × 10-6 K-1 (20 ~ 300 °C).
(2) Content of boron oxide. TAKE appropriate amount of this product,
DETERMINE according to Determination of Boron Oxide (YBB00232003-2015).
The content of boron oxide shall not be less than 8 %.
[Hydrolytic resistance of glass grains at 121 °C] TAKE appropriate amount
of this product, DETERMINE according to Test and Classification for Hydrolytic
Resistance of Glass Grains at 121 °C (YBB00252003-2015). It shall comply
with Grade 1.
Sample treatment. TAKE an empty ampoule, TAPE to remove glass particles,
WASH four or five times with water or gas at 0.2 MPa pressure on the bottle
washing machine, then RINSE it with distilled water, DRY at 110 °C, COOL for
use.
According to the filling volume of the ampoules of various specifications, FILL
the samples with 0.001 mol/L or 0.0075 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution that
has been filtered through a 5 ~ 15 μm sintered glass funnel, SEAL and CARRY
OUT light inspection, REMOVE ampoules containing foreign matters. PUT into
the high-pressure steam sterilizer, HEAT up to 121 °C uniformly within 15
minutes, MAINTAIN for 30 minutes, TAKE out and COOL for light inspection.
CHECK the number of glass falling off in the samples.
5. Precautions
When using sodium hydroxide solution, the newly prepared is appropriate. It
may also be stored for a short time in glass containers or plastic barrels that
are coated with paraffin in the inner wall.
The prepared 0.001 mol/L or 0.0075 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution shall be
filtered using a 5 ~ 15 μm sintered glass funnel.
6. Test results
The test report shall include the following contents.
Sample name, specification, quantity, material type;
Concentration of the test solution used;
Number of glass falling off in the samples and its percentage in the total number;
Test conclusion;
Test unit, date, and tester’s signature.
