Scope

This document specifies the terminology and definitions, types, names of various parts,
inspection methods for PVD coatings for automotive engine piston rings.
This document applies to the inspection of PVD coatings for piston rings of automotive
engines, which have cylinder diameters less than or equal to 160 mm. Inspection of
other types and large-diameter piston ring PVD coatings shall be conducted with
reference to this document.
