Scope

This document specifies the terminology, definitions, types, composition, inspection
methods for chromium-based ceramic composite coatings for automotive engine piston
rings.
This document applies to the inspection of chromium-based ceramic composite
coatings for automotive engine piston rings, which have cylinder diameters less than or
equal to 160 mm. The inspection of other types and large-diameter piston ring
composite coatings shall be conducted with reference to this document.
