Foreword
This Document was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for
Standardization – Part 1: Rules for the Structure and Drafting of Standardizing Documents.
This Document replaced NY/T 118-1989 Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.) for Feedstuffs.
Compared with NY/T 118-1989, the changes in major contents of this Document are as follows
besides the structural adjustments and editorial modifications:
a) The name of the standard is changed from Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.) for Feedstuffs to
Feed Material – Lemma Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.);
b) Modify the Scope of the standard (see Clause 1 of this Edition);
c) Modify the Normative Reference (see Clause 2 of this Edition);
d) Add a clause on Terms and Definitions (see Clause 3 of this Edition);
e) Merge the 5 clauses of Sensory Properties, Moisture, Inclusions, Quality Indicators and
Grading Standards, and Hygienic Standards in the original standard into 1 clause (see
Clause 4 of this Edition; Clauses 3~6 and Clause 8 of the 1989 Edition);
f) Modify the sensory properties in the original standard as appearance and properties;
modify fresh and consistent color to consistent color; modify no fermentation or mildew
to no obvious insects; merge the inclusions requirements to appearance and properties
(see 4.1 of this Edition);
g) Add the thousand-seed weight indicator; and use as a grading standard (see 4.2 of this
Edition);
h) Modify the crude ash grading standard (see 4.2 of this Edition; 6.1 of the 1989 Edition);
i) Modify the crude protein grading standard (see 4.2 of this Edition; 6.1 of the 1989 Edition);
j) Modify the crude fiber grading standard (see 4.2 of this Edition; 6.1 of the 1989 Edition);
k) Add a clause on Sampling (see Clause 5 of this Edition);
l) Add the Sensory Inspection and Test Methods for Determination of Thousand-Seed
Weight (see 6.1 and 6.2 of this Edition);
m) Modify the Inspection Rules (see Clause 7 of this Edition);
n) Modify Marking, Packaging, Transportation and Storage (see Clause 8 of this Edition).

7.2.2 If any indicator in the inspection results does not meet the requirements of this Document,
re-inspection can be carried out by double sampling from the same batch of products. If the re-
inspection results still do not meet the requirements of this Document, it is determined that this
batch of products is unqualified. Microbiological indicators shall not be re-inspected.
