Scope

This document specifies the general requirements, testing procedures, and result
evaluation for magnetic memory testing of pressure equipment.
This document applies to the magnetic memory testing and evaluation of ferromagnetic
metal components (including welded joints). By measuring the stray field indication
(magnetic field strength and direction), the microstructure, manufacturing process, and
working load of the inspected object can be evaluated, and suggestions can be provided
for selecting other non-destructive testing methods for welded joints. When non-
ferromagnetic inspected objects contain ferromagnetic phases (e.g., metastable
austenitic steel, oxide scale, coatings), magnetic memory testing technology can be
used for detection. Magnetic memory testing of supports and structural components
related to buried steel pipelines and pressure equipment can be performed with
reference to this document.
