Foreword
JB/T 8137 “Delivery drums for wires and cables” is divided into 4 parts:
- Part 1: General specifies;
- Part 2: Wood delivery drums;
- Part 3: Steel delivery drums with corrugated plate;
- Part 4: Steel shapes composite delivery drums.
This part is the part 1 of JB/T 8137.
This part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This part replaces JB/T 8137.1-1999 “Delivery drums for wires and cables - Part
1: General specifies”. As compared with JB/T 8137.1-1999, the main technical
changes are as follows:
- For delivery drums which have a side-panel diameter of more than 4000
mm, it allows the user and the manufacturer to negotiate on their own; this
part does not make requirements (see clause 1);
- ADD the normative references (see clause 2);
- In terms and definitions, MODIFY the definition of delivery drum for wires
and cables; ADD the definition of type test and routine test (see clause 3;
clause 2 of the 1999 version);
- DESCRIBE the acceptance rules and test methods in separate clauses
(see clauses 8 and 9; clause 8 of the 1999 version);
- ADD the provisions for testing items (see clause 10).
This part was proposed by the China Machinery Industry Federation.
This part shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Wire and Cable
Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 213).
Responsible drafting organization of this part: Shanghai Cable Research
Institute.
Participated drafting organizations of this part: Jiangsu Qunye Electric Co., Ltd.,

Delivery drums for wires and cables -
Part 1: General specifies
1 Scope
This part of JB/T 8137 specifies the model, material, specifications, technical
requirements, acceptance rules, testing methods, use, storage, packaging,
marking of delivery drum for wires and cables.
This part applies to the cable drum for the delivery of wire and cable products
as well as the recovered and repaired cable drum, abbreviated as the delivery
drum.
This part does not apply to delivery drum for winding wires.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.
GB/T 2900.10 Electrotechnical vocabulary - Electric cables
GB/T 2900.40 Electrotechnical terminology - Machinery and equipment for
electric wires and cables
3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 2900.10 and GB/T 2900.40 as
well as the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Delivery drums for electric wires and cables
The loading and packaging drum which is used for the delivery of electric
wires and cables (excluding winding wires).
3.2
7.2 Metal delivery drum shall reserve the hole position for the fender apron.
8 Acceptance rules
8.1 The product can only be exit-factory after passing the inspection by the
technical inspection department of the manufacturer. The exit-factory product
shall be accompanied with a product inspection certificate.
8.2 The product shall be inspected and accepted according to the specified
testing methods. The type of inspection is type test (T) and routine test (R).
8.3 The recovered and repaired delivery drum shall also be inspected in
accordance with the requirements of this part.
9 Testing methods
9.1 Testing method of dimensional deviation
9.1.1 Method for testing side-panel’s diameter d1, outer width l1, inner
width l2
Use a steel ruler or a steel tape measure to measure the side-panel’s diameter
d1, outer width l1, inner width l2.
9.1.2 Method for testing of cylinder’s diameter d2
When the cylinder’s diameter d2 is less than or equal to 300 mm, use an outside
caliper to measure the cylinder’s diameter d2. Use a steel ruler to measure its
value.
When the cylinder’s diameter d2 is more than 300 mm, measure the difference
ΔR between the radius of the side-panel and the radius of the cylinder; then
calculate the cylinder’s diameter d2. The calculation is according to the formula
(1):
9.1.3 Method for testing of shaft hole’s diameter d4
Use a vernier caliper to measure the shaft hole’s diameter d4.
9.2 Method for testing of shape and position tolerance
The method for testing of shape and position tolerance of the delivery drum is
3) One fixed support and one adjustable
support, level
4) One piece of plate
minimum reading of the indicator is
the circle runout of inner side-panel
10 Testing items
The testing items for the delivery drum are as specified in the subsequent parts
of this standard.
11 Use and storage
11.1 Stacking, handling, use of delivery drum shall comply with relevant
operating procedures and proper handling methods, to avoid collision and
impact. The side-panels of the delivery drum after loading shall remain
perpendicular to the ground.
11.2 The delivery drum shall be protected from long-term sun and rain exposure
or be placed in a damp place.
11.3 Pay attention to the take care of delivery drum. Cable users shall take the
initiative to assist the recycling of the delivery drum.
12 Packaging, marking
12.1 Packaging
The delivery drum is bare-packed. It also allows to use other packaging
methods according to the agreement between the parties.
12.2 Marking
The marking shall be clear and firm, indicate the name or trademark of the
manufacturer, the model, specification, mass, allowable load, date of
manufacture.
