Scope
This document specifies the requirements for the structure, marking and documentation ofdevices and systems using the 2-wire intrinsically safe ethernet (2-WISE) concept.
NOTE. for example, the physical layer specification for 2-wire ethernet 10BASE-T1L defined in
IEEE 802.3cg-2019.
This document applies to devices and systems employing the 2-wire intrinsically safe ethernet
(2-WISE) concept.
2-WISE is an advanced physical layer (APL) concept designed to simplify the verification
process of intrinsic safety parameters for elements and wiring within APL segments. This is
achieved by defining general intrinsic safety parameter limits for APL ports, based on specific
hazardous area requirements, and in addition, a concise set of segmentation rules are listed.
Components of a 2-WISE device may be protected by any explosion-proof type listed in GB/T
3836.1 applicable to EPL in intended hazardous locations. In these cases, the requirements of
this document apply only to the intrinsically safe circuit of the device.
This document is used in conjunction with GB/T 3836.1, GB/T 3836.4, GB 3836.15 or GB/T
3836.18.
