This Part is Part 8 of GB/T 7702.
This Part replaces GB/T 7702.8-1997 "Standard Test Method for Phenol Adsorption of
Granular Activated Carbon from Coal - Determination of Phenol Absorption".
Compared with GB/T 7702.8-1997, the main changes of this Part are as follows.
a) Specify the requirements of water for laboratory use;
b) Specify the grade and specification of filter paper for analysis ;
c) Add the refining method for phenol;
d) Specify the specimen weighing range. Increase the weighing accuracy;
e) Add Chapter 3 - "Terms and Definitions".
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of China North
Industries Group Corporation.

Determination of Phenol Adsorption
1 Scope
This Part specifies the principle, procedures, result calculation and other related
contents for determination of phenol adsorption of granular activated carbon from
coal.
This Part is applicable to determination of phenol adsorption of granular activated
carbon from coal. It is also applicable to powdery activated carbon from coal.
2 Normative References
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text,
constitute provisions of this Part of GB/T 7702. For dated reference, the subsequent
amendments (excluding correction) or revisions of these publications do not apply.
However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this standard are
encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the

referred to applies.

Where,
c — The concentration of sodium thiosulfate standard titration solution, in mol/L;
V1 — The volume of sodium thiosulfate standard titration solution consumed by
specimen titration, in mL;
V2 — The volume of sodium thiosulfate standard titration solution consumed by
titration in blank test, in mL;
M — The molar mass of phenol [M(1/6C6H5OH)=15.68 g/mol], in g/mol;
m — The mass of specimen, in g.
10 Precision
Parallel determination shall be carried out for each test sample by using 2 portions of
specimens. The difference of 2 determination results, expressed by arithmetic mean,
shall not be more than 2% (2% of the mean value). The calculation results shall be
rounded off to integer.
11 Test Report
The test report shall include the following contents.
a) Serial number of the sample;
b) The standards used;
c) The methods used;
d) Test items;
e) Test results;
f) Testing personnel;
g) Date of test.
