Foreword
GB/T 7701 Granular activated carbon from coal is divided into.
— Part 1. Granular activated carbon from coal for gas phase;
— Part 2. Granular activated carbon from coal for water treatment;
— Part 3. Granular activated carbon from coal for carrier.
This part is the Part 2 of GB/T 7701. Annex C modifies and adopts ASTM D 5029-1998
Standard test method for water soluble content in activated carbon (re-confirmed in 2004). The
main changes are as follows.
— Delete safety term in the Scope;
— Delete sections Quoted references, Terminology, Test method introduction,
Meaning and use, and Keywords;
— Delete the examples in result calculation;
— Delete the repeatability requirement in section Precision and deviation.
This part shall replace GB/T 7701.4-1997 Granular activated carbon from coal for water
treatment. The main changes are as follows.
— Delete quality classification;
— Formulate indicators for water soluble substance;
— Adsorption of methylene blue in ex-factory inspection items is changed from
“inspection item” to “item to be agreed by supplier and purchaser”;
— Iodine value is changed to ≥ 800 mg/g;
— Delete indicator of ash content;
— it no longer stipulates specific technical indicators for pore volume and specific
surface area;
— Add measurement of humic acid adsorption in Annex A;
— Add measurement of tannin acid adsorption in Annex B;
— Add measurement of water soluble substance in Annex C.
Annexes A, B and C are normative.
This part was proposed by and shall be administrated by China Weapon Industry Group
Corporation.

Granular activated carbon from coal
Granular activated carbon from coal for water treatment
1 Scope
This part specifies the requirements, inspection rules, test methods, mark, package,
transportation, and storage etc. for granular activated carbon from coal for water
treatment.
This part is applicable to dechlorination, oil removal and purification for industrial water;
further purification treatment for drinking water and sewage; and granular activated
carbon from coal for water treatment when water source are outbreak-polluted.

3.1 Appearance
It shall be the carbon material in dark black, and in granular.
3.2 Impurities
Activated carbon must not contain poisonous and harmful substances which can affect
human health.
3.3 Technical indicators
The technical indicators of granular activated carbon from coal for water treatment shall
comply with the requirements in Table 1.
3.4 Pore volume and specific surface area
When necessary, the supplier shall provide test report and indicate the test method.
3.5 Humic acid adsorption and tannin adsorption
When necessary, the supplier shall provide test report.
4 Inspection rules
4.1 Inspection classification
Product inspection is divided into type testing and ex-factory inspection.
4.2 Type inspection

treatment
Take about 200 mL of activated carbon sample. Place in electrothermal constant
temperature drying box of 150°C±5°C for 2 hours. Then place in the dryer. Cool to room
temperature for standby use.
B.5.2 Drawing standard curve
Take 50 mL of tannin acid solution from 500 mg/L. Transfer to 500 mL volumetric flask. Fill
water to scale and mix well. At this moment, the solution concentration of tannin acid
solution is 50 mg/L. Respectively measure 10.00 mL, 20.00 mL, 30.00 mL, 40.00 mL,
50.00 mL, 60.00 mL of tannin acid solution into 100 mL volumetric flasks. Fill water to
scale and mix well. At 254 nm wavelength, with buffer solution as reference fluid, USE 10
mm quartz cuvette to measure the absorbance of each solution. And draw tannin acid
standard curve according to the absorbance values and the corresponding solution
concentrations.
B.6 Measurement steps
B.6.1 Measure 100 mL of prepared sample for weighing, accurate to 0.0001 g. Place in
250 mL beaker to soak for 24 hours. Use water to wash away the floating ash and floating
carbon (need to collect the floating carbon). Then slowly fill specimen into organic glass
column which has been filled with water, so as to make the height of the specimen to
reach to position of 120 mm (specimen shall be fully soaked into water).
B.6.2 The water in the rest of specimen, along with the collected floating carbon, shall be
filtered away. Place in electrothermal constant temperature drying box of 150°C±5°C...
