Foreword
This Standard replaces GB 5577-1985 “Codification of types for synthetic
rubbers”.
Compared with GB 5577-1985, the main changes in this Standard are as
follows:
- modified the standard name as “Codification of types for synthetic rubbers”;
- added the standard foreword;
- revised the principles for rubber designation;
- no more unified regulations on the main character numbers and digits of
the designation, so as to fully meet the needs of enterprise technology
development;
- added format requirements for synthetic rubber designation;
- deleted naming procedures;
- modified Annex A “Digital regulations of main characteristics” to
“Information of main features of synthetic rubber” and modified main
characteristics of the rubber types such as NBR, EPDM, EPM, IIR, and
SBS;
- according to the current domestic production status, modified Annex B
"Some synthetic rubbers produced in China and their designations";
- drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
Annex A and Annex B of this Standard are informative.
This Standard was proposed by China Petrochemical Corporation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of Technical subcommittee on
synthetic rubber of National Technical Committee on rubber and rubber
products of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 35/SC 6).
The drafting organization of this Standard: China National Petroleum
Corporation Lanzhou Chemical Research Center.

Corporation Lanzhou Petrochemical Branch.
Codification of types for synthetic rubbers
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the principles and formats to formulate synthetic rubber
designations.
This Standard is applicable to synthetic rubber.
This Standard is not applicable to latex.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Standard,
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.
GB/T 5576-1997, Rubbers and lattices - Nomenclature (idt ISO 1629:1995)
3 Principles for regulation of synthetic rubber
designations
The expression of synthetic rubber designation shall be concise. It is generally
composed of rubber variety code and characteristic information. Additional
information can be added if necessary.
3.1 Synthetic rubber variety code
Synthetic rubber variety codes shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 5576-
1997. The code of synthetic rubber and other synthetic material modified
products shall be composed of the variety code of synthetic rubber and the
variety code of other synthetic materials. Each material variety code is
separated by the symbol "/". For liquid rubber, powder rubber and rubber of
other shapes, the appearance shapes can be indicated in the additional
information.
3.2 Rubber characteristic information
Rubber characteristic information shall be composed of information that can
characterize the main characteristics of raw rubber. It may include: structural
content, relative molecular mass, combined monomer content, raw rubber
Mooney viscosity, melt index, solution viscosity, polymerization temperature,
polymerization catalyst system, filling condition, antioxidant type. Refer to
Annex A for various synthetic rubber characteristics information. Characteristic
information is generally expressed in Arabic numerals.
3.3 Additional rubber information
If the characteristic information is not yet able to clearly distinguish the rubber
product varieties, it can add some additional information as appropriate, such
as processing performance, use, color, appearance shape. The additional
information can be expressed in numbers or in the form of English letters or
Chinese Pinyin prefix.
4 Format for synthetic rubber designation
The designation of synthetic rubber is generally composed of 2~3 character-
groups.
The first character-group: rubber variety code information group, in
accordance with the provisions of GB/T 5576-1997.
The second character-group: rubber characteristic information group. If
digits are used to represent characteristic information, according to the
number of characteristic information to be listed, it shall be composed of 2~4
Arabic numerals. One digit can be used to represent one characteristic, or
two digits can be used to represent one characteristic.
The third character-group: rubber additional information group. The
additional information and characteristic information can be connected with
a short "-".
The format for synthetic rubber designation is as follows:

selected. Users can also increase or decrease the use according to actual
conditions.
