Foreword
This Standard is identical to ISO 4063.1998 “Welding and allied processes Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers” (English version).
To ensure the coordination and operability of the standard, this Standard, in the equivalent conversion of the international standard, has made necessary editorial changes.
Compared with ISO 4063, this Standard mainly has the following changes in content.
- Directly ADOPT the definition of GB/T 3375 “Welding terminology”;
- On the basis of normal designation, ADD a simplified designation for reference numbers and an example.
This Standard is a revision of GB/T 5185-1985 “Welding, brazing, braze welding and soldering of metals -List of processes for symbolic representation on drawings”. Compared with GB/T 5185-1985, there are two main changes.
-ADD new welding processes;
- DELETE some old and backward welding process reference numbers. This Standard, as of the date of implementation, replaces GB/T 5185-1985. Annex A of this Standard is an informative annex. This Standard was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
55 on Welding of Standardization Administration of China.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the reference numbers for welding and allied processes.
This reference number system specified by this Standard can be used in computerization, drawings, the drafting of working papers, welding procedure specifications, etc.
2 Normative references
The clauses in the following documents, by reference in this Standard, constitute the clauses of this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent amendments (not including errata content) or revisions do not apply to this Standard. However, parties which have reached an agreement according to this Standard are encouraged to study whether the latest version of these documents can be used. For the undated references, the latest version is applicable to this Standard.
GB/T 3375 Welding terminology
3 Designation
Welding and allied processes involved in this Standard are defined in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 3375.
When a full designation of a process is required, a full designation shall be used, that is, “process + standard number + process reference number”. For example, “friction welding” can be designated as.
Process GB/T 5185-42
In the case of no misunderstanding, a simplified designation can be used, that is, only the reference number is marked. For example, “friction welding” can be expressed by “42”.
