This part of GB/T 5008 specifies the model designation and marking of the polarity, battery type and classification, battery terminal position, and dimensions and marking of terminals of lead-acid battery for starting. This part is applicable to vented (flooded) lead-acid batteries and valve regulated (gas recombination) batteries used for starting, lighting and ignition of various automobiles, tractors, heavy trucks and other internal combustion engines with a nominal voltage of 12 V (hereinafter referred to as “batteries”). This standard does not apply to batteries used for other purposes, such as batteries for starting railway internal combustion engines.
