This Document describes a method for determining volatile components in polypropylene (PP) materials using headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS), employing a predictive model built using the random forest algorithm, and distinguishing between post- consumer mechanically recycled PP and virgin PP. This Document is applicable to the identification of granular recycled PP plastics produced from post-consumer PP feedstock through processes such as shredding, screening, sorting, washing, and melt-extrusion pelletizing, etc. This Document is not applicable to the identification of recycled PP plastics obtained through chemical recycling.
