Information technology -- Basic requirements for 8-way and
above server functions
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the basic functional requirements for servers with 8 or more
central processing units and global shared memory, including system architecture and
composition, functions that each subsystem at the hardware level shall or shall have,
and functions that each subsystem at the software level shall or shall have.
This Standard applies to the research, development and manufacturing of 8-way and
above servers.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 server
A computer system that provides specific application services to client computers. It
consists of a hardware system (processor, storage device, network connection device,
etc.) and a software system (operating system, database management system,
application system).
3.2 8-way and above server
A high performance, high reliability server comprising 8 or more general purpose

maintenance functions shall be provided. It may be composed of BMC, SMC and
monitoring management network.
6.1.4.2 It shall support the management of asset information such as processors,
memory, I/O devices, and firmware version information.
6.1.4.3 It shall support the creation, deletion, configuration, startup, shutdown and
restart of hardware partitions.
6.1.4.4 It shall support monitoring of key monitoring points such as temperature, core
voltage, fan speed and other health status.
6.1.4.5 It shall support logging of abnormal server status and support alarm methods
such as SNMP, email, LED, etc.
6.1.4.6 It shall support the addition, deletion and password modification of
administrative users.
6.1.4.7 Online firmware update shall be supported.
6.1.4.8 Serial port redirection based on Ethernet shall be supported.
6.1.4.9 Ethernet-based mouse, keyboard, and video redirection shall be supported.
6.1.4.10 Authentication and authorization of management users shall be supported.
6.1.4.11 The data stream shall be encrypted when the management user accesses the
monitoring management subsystem.
6.1.4.12 It shall support the recording of all operations of management users and
important events occurring in the system to meet audit requirements.
6.1.4.13 Multiple access modes such as graphical and textual access shall be supported.
6.1.4.14 Component register level fault diagnosis shall be supported.
6.1.4.15 It is recommended to support online isolation or replacement of SMC.
