Tissue paper - Determination of adsorbable organic
halogen (AOX)
1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination method for adsorbable organic
halogens (AOX) in tissue paper.
This standard applies to the determination of AOX in tissues, toilet paper and
other tissue papers.
The detection limit of this standard is 2 mg/kg.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.

analytical sample
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Tissue paper
Crepe paper for sanitary wipes produced from wood fiber or non-wood fiber,
including toilet paper, paper towels (paper napkins, paper face towels, paper
handkerchiefs), hand tissues, kitchen paper towels, etc.
3.2
Adsorbable organic halogen; AOX
6.4 Activated carbon: Dedicated for determination of adsorbable organic
halogen (AOX).
6.5 Electrolyte: Measure 75 mL of 98% glacial acetic acid; add water to make
the volume to 100 mL.
6.6 Hydrochloric acid solution: 0.010 mol/L; measure 32.57 mL of 0.307 mol/L
hydrochloric acid (density at 1.19 g/mL); add water to make the volume to 1 L.
6.7 p-chlorophenol stock solution: 200 μg/L; weigh 72.5 mg of p-chlorophenol;
add water to make the volume to 100 mL.
6.8 Compressed gas: It is necessary to dilute oxygen with inert gas to control
combustion during combustion. All gases used in the test shall not contain any
form of chlorine and bromine.
7 Sampling and processing
7.1 Sampling shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 450.
7.2 Test the moisture of the sample in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
462.
7.3 Preparation of the specimen: Use tweezers or scissors to tear or cut the
sample into small pieces. Protective gloves shall be worn during specimen
collection and preparation, to prevent contamination of the specimen.
8 Test procedure
8.1 Weigh 0.4 g ~ 0.6 g (accurate to 1 mg) of specimen. Put it into a 250 mL
conical flask (5.4). Add 100 mL of sodium nitrate working solution (6.2). Close
the stopper and shake the conical flask vigorously to make specimen is fully
moistened. Then place it on the oscillator (5.2). Oscillate at a speed of 150
times/min for 1 h.
8.2 After oscillation, use the filter device (5.3) that has been installed in a clean
quartz cup filter to filter the contents of the conical flask; use 25 mL of sodium
nitrate working solution to rinse the conical flask and the inner wall of the filter.
Collect all the filtrate in a clean conical flask. Keep the filtrate A for later use.
8.3 Add 50 mg of activated carbon (6.4) to the filtrate A. Cap the flask tightly.
Then place it on the oscillator, to oscillate it at a speed of 150 times/min for 1 h.
8.4 Use a filter device to filter the contents of the conical flask to another clean
quartz cup. Use 25 mL of sodium nitrate working solution to rinse the conical
