Foreword
GB/T 337 Nitric Acid for Industrial Use can be divided into the following two parts.
--- Part 1. Concentrated Nitric Acid for Industrial Use;
--- Part 2. Dilute Nitric Acid for Industrial Use.
This Part belongs to Part 2 of GB/T 337.
This Part was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaced GB/T 337.2-2002 Dilute Nitric Acid for Industrial Use. Compared
with GB/T 337.2-2002, this Part has the following major technical changes besides
editorial changes.
--- Add product type (see Chapter 4);
--- Delete Acid 62, add the specification of Acid 60 and Acid 55 (see 5.2 of this
Edition; 3.2 of 2002 Edition);
--- Adjust the nitrous acid content from 0.20% to 0.10%; adjust burning residue from
0.02% to 0.01% (see 5.2 of this Edition; 3.2 of 2002 Edition);
--- Modify the test procedures of nitric acid content (see 6.3 of this Edition; 4.1 of
2002 Edition);
--- Modify the test procedures of nitrous acid content (see 6.4 of this Edition; 4.2 of
2002 Edition);
--- Modify the test procedures of burning residue (see 6.5 of this Edition; 4.3 of 2002
Edition);
--- Modify the inspection rules of the product (see Chapter 7 of this Edition; Chapter
5 of 2002 Edition).
This Part was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of Inorganic Chemical Branch of the National
Chemical Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 63/SC 1).

Dilute Nitric Acid for Industrial Use
Warning. The dilute nitric acid specimen in this Part is corrosive, and may cause
burns; meanwhile it is also an oxidant that reacts with various substances,
metals and metal oxides; so be careful when handling it. Some of the reagents
used in the test are corrosive; if they are splashing onto the skin, immediately
wash with water; for the severe case, see a doctor.
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 337 specifies the types, requirements, test methods, inspection rules,
mark, label, package, transportation, storage and safety of dilute nitric acid for
industrial use.
This Part is applicable to the dilute nitric acid for industrial use. This Product is mainly
used for preparation of concentrated nitric acid, nitrate, nitrate nitrogen fertilizer and
other raw materials.

7.3 The indexes of nitric acid content and nitrous acid content specified in this Part
belong to the exit-factory inspection items, and shall be inspected batch by batch.
7.4 The products with the same quality that are produced continuously or produced
in the same shift consist of one batch; one batch can also be formed through the
product storage cans.
7.5 Determine the number of sampling units and liquid sampling equipment as per
the provisions of GB/T 6678 and GB/T 6680. Sample can be taken by the glass
sampling tube or stainless steel sampling tube. From the upper, middle and lower parts
of the container to take a uniform sample; the sampling volume shall be no less than
500mL. Collect the samples to the clean, dry, stoppered brown glass bottle or hard
plastic bottle, then seal it. Paste the label on the bottle including manufacturer name,
product name, batch number, sampling date, and sampler name. One shall be taken
as the laboratory sample, the other shall be stored for future reference; the retention
time shall be determined by the manufacturer according to the actual demand; it is
recommended that one week shall not be exceeded.
7.6 If there is any indicators not meeting the requirements of this Part in the test
results, re-inspect through taking twice amount of samples; if there is one indicator not
meeting the requirements of this Part in the re-inspection results, the whole batch of
products shall be determined as disqualified.
7.7 Judge whether the inspection results conform to this Part according to the
provisions of round-off comparison method stipulated in GB/T 8170.
8 Mark and Label
8.1 There shall be firm and clear mark on the package of the dilute nitric acid, which
includes manufacturer name, product name, as well as the labels of “corrosive
substances” and “oxidizing substances” stipulated in GB 190-2009.
8.2 Each batch of dilute nitric acid leaving the factory shall be attached with quality
certificate. The contents of quality certificate include manufacturer name, factory
address, product name, specification, net content, batch number (or manufacturing
date) and this Part number.
9 Package, Transportation and Storage
9.1 Dilute nitric acid shall be packed by the hard plastic and stainless steel containers
that are dilute nitric acid resistant.
