Garments – Testing Method of
Electromagnetic Shielding Effectiveness
Warning – Personnel using this Standard shall have the practical experience in
the formal laboratory. During the test period as per this Standard, the relevant
personnel shall be protected against the harm from electromagnetic radiation.
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of
civil (non-professional use) anti-electromagnetic radiation garments.
This Standard is applicable to the anti-electromagnetic radiation garments worn by
people in daily life and made of electromagnetic shielding fabric; the frequency range
is of 80MHz ~ 6000MHz.
2 Normative References
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the
dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this
document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the
amendments) are applicable to this document.

Testing
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Electromagnetic shielding effectiveness
On certain point with the same excitement, the electric field strength ratio detected
from the unshielded and shielded garments, which shall be expressed in logarithmic.
3.2 Anechoic chamber
Shielding room installed the wave-absorbing materials to reduce the radio wave
reflection from the internal surface.
[GB/T 17626.3-2006, definition 4.2]
3 – Human body model;
4 – Wave-absorbing materials.
Figure 1 -- Test Schematic Diagram
7.1.4 Test points. the receiving probes are placed in the front center of human body
model chest and abdomen, and placed in the internal part of the human body model.
The external surface of the probe shall be flush with the human body model. See
Figure 1.
NOTE. since the usage and style of sample are different, the test parameters can also be
determined through the negotiation between relevant parties. However, it shall be indicated in
the test report.
7.2 Test procedures
7.2.1 After calibrating the test system, set the output signal frequency (see 7.1.1) and
level of signal generator, so that the electric field strength (E2) of the shielded garment
is greater than 3dB of sensitivity of receiving probe. Maintain the signal amplifier output
level unchanged; each position (test point) of the sample shall be tested once from the
horizontal and vertical polarization; perform the test against the two test points (see
7.1.4) of human body model; then obtain 24 electronic field strength test data of E1.
7.2.2 Put the tested garment sample onto the human body model, pay attention that
the access location of the wire shall not influence the normal wearing state of the
garment; after maintaining the relative positions between the garment and the human
body model, perform the test as per 7.2.1; then obtain 24 electronic field strength test
data of E2.
NOTE. for the garment with adjustable zipper or clothes rope, when wearing the garment, the
zipper shall be closed, and the clothes rope shall be tied.
7.2.3 For the anti-washing and anti-electromagnetic radiation garment, after washing
and drying the specimen as per 6.2, then perform the test as per 7.2.2.
8 Calculation and Result Expression
8.1 Record the actual value (see Table 1) of electric field strength on the chest and
abdomen test points; calculate the electromagnetic shielding efficiency as per Formula
(1); round-off to one digit after the decimal.
