Test methods for building sheets for waterproofing -
Part 10. Bitumen t plastic and rubber sheets for waterproofing
- Watertightness
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 328 is applicable for testing the water tightness of bitumen and rubber
sheets for waterproofing as per the regulated procedures, that is, the products’ water
resistance or the bearable water pressure of the limited surface.
This method can also be used in other waterproof materials.

The articles contained in the following documents have become part of this document when
they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all subsequent modifications
(including all corrections) or revisions made thereafter do not apply to this standard.

GB/T 328.1 Test methods for building sheets for waterproofing - Part 1. Bitumen plastic
and rubber sheets for waterproofing - Rules for sampling
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions by apply to this Part of GB/T 328.
3.1 Upper side
In the using field, the upwards side of the sheets is usually the inner side of the coiled
sheets.
3.2 Water tightness
The waterproof ability of the flexible sheets for waterproofing, such as.
Method A. The filter paper on the surface of the test-piece is non-discolouring during the
whole test process.
Method B. Comparing to the start pressure, the final pressure reduces not more than 5%.
4. Principles
For the sheets within the concerned range of bitumen, plastic and rubber, this Standard
provides the test procedures of two kinds of test methods.
4.1 Method A
This test is applicable for the low-pressure using condition of sheets, such as. roof, base
layer and vapour retarder layer. The test-piece is satisfied with the requirements till the
pressure is 60KPa and lasts for 24 hours.
4.2 Method B
This test is applicable for the high-pressure using condition of sheets, such as. the special
roof, tunnel and reservoir. The test-pieces, adopting four discs which have the regulated
shape and size of slot, are maintained under the regulated water pressure for 24 hours; or
the test-piece, adopting seven-hole discs, are maintained under the regulated water
pressure for 30 minutes; then observe whether the test-pieces maintain no-leakage .
5. Instrument and equipment
5.1 Method A
A metal cylinder box, with a flange plate, the hole diameter is 150mm, connecting to the
end of open pipe or the container, the height difference between them is not less than 1
meter, type one is shown in Figure1.
cover with the specified slotted plate (or the seven-hole disc); in which, the direction of one
of the slots is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the sheets (see Figure 4). Cover the
seal cap; clamp slowly till the test-piece is firmly clamped on the plate; dry the downstream
face of the test-piece with cloth or compressed air; slowly pressurize to the specified
pressure.
After reaching the specified pressure, maintain this pressure for (24 ± 1) hours [for seven-
hole disc, maintain under this pressure for (30 ± 2) minutes].
Observe the water tightness of the test-piece during the test (the water pressure declines
suddenly, or the downstream face of test-piece has water).
9. Results expression and accuracy
9.1 Results expression
9.1.1 Method A
If there is obvious water to seep into filter paper on test-piece and cause discoloration, the
test is deemed as non-conformity.
If all test-pieces pass the test, it is deemed as that the sheets are watertightness.
9.1.2 Method B
If all test-pieces are waterproof within the specified time, it is deemed as that the sheets
are watertightness.
9.2. Accuracy
Accuracy of the test methods has not been specified.
10. Test report
The test report shall at least include the following information.
a) All of the data required by the test of relevant products;
b) The contents involved in this Part of GB/T 328 and THE deviation;
c) Sampling information based on the chapter 6;
d) The test-piece preparation details based on chapter 7;
e) The adopted method A or method B of the test procedures (slotted plate or seven-
hole disc), including ...
