Foreword
GB/T 3246 ?€?Inspection method for structure of wrought aluminum and
aluminum alloy products?€? consists of two parts.
- Part 1. Inspection method for microstructure;
- Part 2. Inspection method for macrostructure.
This Part is Part 2 of GB/T 3246.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Part replaces GB/T 3246.2-2000 ?€?Wrought Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys Products Inspection Method for Structure?€?.
Compared with GB/T 3246.2-2000, the main changes in this Part are as follows. - added sectional view of cast ingot oxide film sample;
- modified sampling method, sample preparation method of plate, strip low magnification sample;
- added alkaline corrosion requirements for 8?????? alloy;
- added requirements for degree of alkali corrosion;
- added typical photos of fracture structure of sheet oxide film, microstructure of porosity and non-metallic inclusions, and feather-like crystal fracture structure.
This Part uses redrafting method to formulate based on ASTM E3-2011
?€?Standard Guide for Preparation of Metallographic Specimens?€? and ASTM
E340-2010 (2006) ?€?Standard Practice for Macroetching Metals and Alloys?€?. The degree of consistency with ASTM E3-2011 and ASTME 340-2010 (2006) is non- equivalent.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Non-ferrous Metal of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 243). Main drafting organizations of this Part. 1 Scope
This Standard specifies test solution as well as sample preparation, structure inspection, defect classification and test report for macrostructure inspection of aluminum and aluminum alloy cast ingots (or ingot blank), deformed aluminum and aluminum alloy sheets, strips, foils, tubes, rods, shapes, wires, forgings (hereinafter referred to as processed products).
This Part is applicable to macrostructure inspection of aluminum and aluminum alloy cast ingots (or ingot blank) and processed products.
2 Test solution
2.1 Extra strong mixed acid solution. mix hydrofluoric acid (??1.15g/mL), nitric acid (??1.40g/mL) and hydrochloric acid (??1.19g/mL) in the volume of (1+5+15), mix well.
2.2 Strong mixed acid solution. mix hydrofluoric acid (??1.15g/mL), nitric acid (??1.40g/mL) and hydrochloric acid (??1.19g/mL) and water in the volume of (1+5+15+42), mix well.
2.3 Sodium hydroxide solution (150g/L~250g/L).
2.4 High concentration mixed acid solution. mix hydrofluoric acid (??1.15g/mL), nitric acid (??1.40g/mL) and hydrochloric acid (??1.19g/mL) and water in the volume of (2+1+1+76), mix well.
2.5 Nitric acid solution (1+4) ~ nitric acid solution (1+3).
2.6 Sodium hydroxide solution (80g/L~120g/L).
3 Sample preparation
3.1 Sample blanks shall be taken in accordance with relevant standards or technical agreements and the requirements of Table 1.

Extract an oxide film sample blank having a size (length ?? width ?? height) of 50 mm ?? 50 mm ?? 150 mm or a size (diameter ?? height) of ?? 50 mm ?? 150 mm at the end of the cast ingot. And it is made from a 150mm high pier to a 30mm thick sample cake.
The other macrostructure sample blanks are respectively cut transversely at the head and tail of the cast ingot, and the thickness is preferably 25 mm ?? 5 mm. Plate, strip
The transverse sample blank shall be cut perpendicular to the product rolling direction. The sample blank width shall be 30mm. It is then cut into several segments in the longitudinal direction.
The thickness of the product that needs to be fractured tissue inspection shall be no less than 25mm.
Extrusion product
The macrostructure sample blank shall be cut in the transverse direction at the tail of the extruded product. The product extruded by the diversion die also requires the sample blank to be cut at the head of the extruded product when inspecting the weld quality. The thickness of the sample blank is preferably 30 mm ?? 5 mm. The coarse crystal ring shall be inspected on the sample blank (or the sample material after quenching) cut from the quenched product.
Special products are cut into sample blanks according to the drawings
Forging Cut the sample blank according to the position specified in the technical drawings. 3.2 Samples shall be taken from the sample blank as specified in Table 2. Table 2

Oxide film sample.
Saw the sample cake into two pieces
along the diameter. Take a 30mm wide
strip blank from the side of the sample
saw. Saw the diameter of the sample
blank into a wedge groove. The groove
depth is 1/3 of the width of the sample.
Ensure that the area to be inspected is
not less than 2000mm2, as shown in
Figure 1. The sample blank is broken or
cleaved b, d on the press (or by other
methods), as shown in Figure 2.
Check other fracture tissue samples.
Slot in the part to be inspected. If the
sample blank is large, it may not be
slotted. On the press (or other methods),
the sample blank is broken or opened b, d,
as shown in Figure 2.

blanks that are too small in size and odd
in shape shall be machined into wedge-
