This Standard identically adopts the International standard ISO 15528.2000
“Paints, varnishes and raw materials for paints and varnishes - Sampling”
(English version).
This Standard replaces GB 3186-1982 (1989) “Sampling paint products” and
GB 9285-1988 “Raw materials for paints and varnishes - Sampling”.
The main technical differences between this Standard and GB 3186 and GB
9285 are as follows.
- this Standard combined the contents of GB 3186 and GB 9285, added
some simple and applicable sampling instruments, and deleted some
sampling instruments that were not applicable;
- this Standard deleted the procedures for the initial inspection of samples
taken.
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Paints and Pigments of Standardization Administration of China.
The drafting organization of this Standard. China National Chemical
Construction Corporation Changzhou Coating Chemical Research Institute.
Main drafter of this Standard. Huang Ning.
GB 3186 was issued for the first time in 1982, was confirmed in 1989. GB 9285
was issued for the first time in 1988. These two standards shall be revised for

1 Scope
This Standard describes manual methods of sampling paints, varnishes and
raw materials for paints and varnishes. Such products include liquids and
materials which, without undergoing chemical modification, are capable of
being liquefied when heated up, and also powdered, granulated and pasty
materials. Samples may be taken from containers, e.g. cans, drums, tanks,
containers, tank wagons or ships' tanks, as well as from barrels, sacks, big bags,
silos or silo wagons, or from conveyor belts.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute the provisions of this Standard. For dated references,
subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these
