Foreword
GB/T 31556 Packaging Sacks – Description and Method of Measurement for
Dimension is divided into two parts.
-- Part 1. Paper Sacks;
-- Part 2. Sacks Made from Thermoplastic Flexible Film.
This Part belongs to Part 1 of GB/T 31556.
This Part was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part uses the redrafting method to modify ISO 6591-1.1984 Packaging – Sacks –
Description and Method of Measurement – Part 1. Empty Paper Sacks.
Compared with ISO 6591-1.1984, this Part mainly has the following technical
difference and the causes.
-- Express the width of valve g and width of valve sleeve v in ISO 6591-1.1984 by
width of valve v uniformly.
-- The measurement method of this Part removes the requirements for sampling,
and specifies the test conditions.
This Part was proposed and under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Packaging (SAC/TC 49).
Drafting organizations of this Part. Technical Supervision and Research Center for China
Building Materials Industry, and Guangdong Quality and Measurement Supervision
and Inspection Institute.
Chief drafting staffs of this Part. Zhao Tingting, Chen Bin, Li Liqing, Che Dongdong, Yu
Jingduan, and Gan Xiangchen.
Packaging Sacks – Description and Method of
Measurement for Dimension – Part 1. Paper Sacks
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T XXXXX [Translator note. it should be GB/T 31556] specifies the
terms and definitions, dimension description, measurement methods and test report of
the paper sack dimension.
This Part is applicable to the paper sacks stipulated in GB/T 17858.1, namely, the
single-layer or multi-layer packaging sacks compositely processed by paper or paper
and other ductile materials; while it is not applicable to the packaging sacks for the
retailed goods.
2 Normative References
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the
dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this
document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the
amendments) are applicable to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions stipulated in GB/T 17858.1 are applicable to this
document.
3.1 Length of sack
The distance between the transverse edges of the sack; it is perpendicular to the sack
end direction, and measured from the center of the sack.
3.2 Width of sack

5 Measurement Methods
5.1 Tools
Ruler or other measuring tools with measuring range no less than the length of sack;
the division value is 1mm.
5.2 Test procedures
Adjust the sack state under the conditions of temperature at (23±1) °C and relative
humidity at (50±2)%; usually, the sack without moisture-proof layer needs to be placed
for 24h; while the sack with moisture-proof layer needs to be placed for 72h.
Place the sack horizontally, so that it is flat and without wrinkles. Measure the
dimensions of variety of sacks from the measuring points as per the descriptions in
Chapter 4; measure at least twice at the same measuring points, take the arithmetic
mean value, and accurate to 1mm.
6 Test Report
The test report shall contain the following contents.
a) Describe the necessary information for the sample in details;
b) Standard reference for the measurement;
c) Test environment conditions;
d) Measurement results, accurate to 1mm;
e) Special situations during the measuring process;
f) Additional information not involved in this Part, or conditions or factors that may
affect the measurement results.
