1 Scope
This Standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, storage and quality certificate of samarium metal.
This Standard applies to the samarium metal that is produced by the metal thermal reduction method, which is mainly used as rare earth permanent
magnet materials and metal additives.

3 Technical requirements
3.1 Product classification
The products are divided into five designations of Sm-4N, Sm-3N5, Sm-3N, Sm-2N5, and Sm-2N according to their chemical composition. The method of expressing product designations shall meet the requirements of GB/T 17803. 4.1.3 The content of the main rare earth element (Sm) is obtained by the subtraction method, that is, the difference between the total content of elements (100%) and the total content of impurity elements (the combined content of rare earth impurities and non-rare earth impurities).
4.1.4 The analysis method of the total content of rare earths (RE) shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 14635. When the
measured total content of rare earths is above 99%, the actual value of the total content of rare earths is calculated by the subtraction method, that is, the difference between the total content of elements (100%) and the content of non- rare earth impurities.
4.1.5 The relative purity of the main rare earth elements (Sm/RE) is calculated, which is the percentage of the content of the main rare earth elements to the total content of rare earth elements.
4.2 Numerical rounding
Rounding off the value shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 8170.
4.3 Appearance quality
Under natural scattered light, check visually.
5 Inspection rules
5.1 Inspection and acceptance
5.1.1 The supplier's quality inspection department shall inspect products, to ensure that the product quality meets the requirements of this Standard, and fill in the product quality certificate.
5.1.2 The buyer shall inspect the received product in accordance with the provisions of this Standard. If the inspection result does not conform to the provisions of this Standard, it shall be submitted to the supplier within 2 months from the date of receipt of the product, and the supplier and the buyer shall negotiate and resolve it. If arbitration is required, an organization that is recognized by both parties can be entrusted to conduct a joint sampling on the buyer's side.
5.2 Batch
Products shall be submitted for inspection in batches; each batch shall consist of products of the same designation.
