Foreword
GB/T 28784 Mechanical vibration - Measurement of vibration on ships has
issued or plans to issue the following parts.
- Part 1. General guidelines
- Part 2. Measurement of structural vibration
- Part 3. Pre-installation vibration measurement of shipboard equipment
- Part 4. Measurement and evaluation of ship propulsion device vibration
This Part is the second part of GB/T 28784.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 7453-1996 Measurement of ship vibration; partially
replaces GB/T 14696-1993 Code for the measurement of ship vibration and
GB/T 14697-1993 Code for the measurement of local vibration of ship.
Compared with GB/T 7453-1996, GB/T 14696-1993 and GB/T 14697-1993, the
main technical changes are as follows.
- modified terms and definitions; added terms of “global structural vibration”,
“local structural vibration”, “operational vibration defection shape”; deleted
the term of “vibration level”;
- added data processing analysis method of flat-topped window, Hanning
window, order tracking;
- added vibration measurement result illustrations including time-domain
plot, spectrogram, waterfall plot, order plot;
- added relevant content about local structural vibration in structural design.
This Part uses translation method to make it identical with ISO 20283-2.2008
Mechanical vibration - Measurement of vibration on ships - Part 2.
Measurement of structural vibration.
The Chinese document which has consistency with the international normative
reference in this Standard is as follows.
- GB/T 2298 Mechanical vibration and shock - Terminology (GB/T 2298-
2010, ISO 2041.2009, IDT)
For ease of use, this Part makes the following editorial changes.
- modified “1 measurement reference plane” in Figure B.1 to “1
measurement reference plane (propeller tip plane)”.
This Part was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National
Technical Committee on Mechanical Vibrations and Impacts of Standardization
Administration of China (SAC/TC 53).
The drafting organizations of this Part. China Ship Scientific Research Center,
China Classification Society Shanghai Rules and Research Institute, Shanghai
Jiaotong University, Wuhan University of Technology, Shanghai Ship and
Shipping Research Institute, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
Main drafters of this Part. Guo Lie, Zhang Jianjun, Rao Zhushi, Yuan Chengqing,
Jiang Jinhui, Zhu Hua.
Versions of standard substituted by this Part are.

Mechanical vibration - Measurement of vibration on
ships - Part 2. Measurement of structural vibration
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 28784 gives guidelines, and specifies requirements and
procedures for the measurement, diagnostic evaluation and reporting of
structural vibration of ships, excited by the propulsion plant. Structural vibration
can be of global or of local nature. Here, primarily global vibration is dealt with.
Local vibration of deck structures from a habitability point of view is dealt with
in GB/T 7452. Occurrence of local vibration leading to fatigue damage is rare
and strongly related to the individual configuration. Therefore, no general
guideline for the measurement of such type of vibration is provided within the
scope of this Standard (all parts). For reference, some basic information
regarding the design of structures with respect to local structural vibration is
provided in Annex D.
This Part does not consider transient ship vibration phenomena, e.g., as excited
by slamming.
Even though torsional shaft or crankshaft vibration can in some cases cause
relevant structural vibration, they are not considered here. In this connection,
reference can be made to the relevant classification rules and Part 4 of this
Standard.
