Aluminium hardeners
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as
marking, packaging, transportation, storage, quality certificate and order form (or
contract) contents for aluminium hardeners.
This Standard applies to aluminium hardeners for cast aluminium alloys and wrought
aluminium alloys.
This Standard does not apply to aluminium-titanium-boron, aluminium-titanium-
carbon and aluminium-titanium alloy wires for cast aluminium alloys and wrought
aluminium alloys.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
aluminium hardeners
An alloy made of aluminium as a matrix and melted with other metals or non-metals at
elevated temperatures. It is used to adjust and control the chemical composition and
structure of cast aluminium alloys or wrought aluminium alloys. The mass fraction of
the main alloying elements can exceed 50%.
4 Requirements
4.1 Product classification
4.1.1 Representation method of aluminium hardener designation
The designation of aluminium hardeners is composed of “Al” + the symbol of the main
alloying element + the nominal mass fraction of the main alloying element. The main
alloying elements are arranged in descending order by their element mass fractions.
When the nominal mass fractions of the main alloying elements and the main alloying
elements are the same, but the impurity elements are different or the mass fractions of
the impurity elements are different, the suffix English letters indicate different impurity
control requirements. Examples are as follows:
Example 1: Designation of aluminium hardeners with one main alloying element
Example 2: Designation of aluminium hardeners with two main alloying elements
4.1.4 Marking and examples
The marking of aluminium hardeners is expressed in the order of product category,
number of this Standard, designation of the aluminium hardener, designation of the raw
aluminium ingot (which can be omitted when designation Al99.70 is selected),
dimensions and piece weight. Examples of marking are as follows:
Example 1:
The aluminium hardener, with the designation of aluminium hardener AlB3, the
designation of raw aluminium ingot Al99.70, the thickness 40 mm, the width 220 mm,
the length 420 mm, and the weight per piece 7 kg, is marked as:
Ingot GB/T 27677-AlB3-40×220×420-7
Example 2:
The aluminium hardener, with the designation of aluminium hardener AlCa5, the
designation of raw aluminium ingot Al99.70, the wire diameter ϕ9.5 mm, and the
weight per coil 200 kg, is marked as:
Wire coil GB/T 27677-AlCa5-ϕ9.5-200
Example 3:
The aluminium hardener, with the designation of aluminium hardener AlCa10, the
designation of raw aluminium ingot Al99.70, the wire diameter 9.5 mm and the weight
per bundle 5 kg, is marked as:
Wire rod GB/T 27677-AlCa10-ϕ9.5-5
Example 4:
The aluminium hardener, with the designation of aluminium hardener AlB3, the
designation of raw aluminium ingot Al99.70, the thickness 30 mm, the width 250 mm,
the length 250 mm, and the weight per piece 5 kg, is marked as:
Ingot GB/T 27677-AlSc2(Al99.90)-30×250×250-5
5.3 Microstructure
Microstructure shall be inspected in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 3246.1.
5.4 Appearance
Visually inspect the appearance under natural scattered light.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Inspection and acceptance
6.1.1 The aluminium hardeners shall be inspected by the supplier to ensure that the
quality of the aluminium hardeners complies with the provisions of this Standard and
the order form (or contract), and a quality certificate shall be filled in.
6.1.2 The buyer shall inspect the received aluminium hardeners in accordance with the
provisions of this Standard. If the test result is inconsistent with the provisions of this
Standard and the order form (or the contract), a written form shall be submitted to the
supplier; the issue shall be settled by negotiation between the supplier and the buyer.
Objections related to product appearance shall be raised within 1 month from the date
of receipt of the aluminium hardeners. Objections related to other properties shall be
raised within 3 months from the date of receipt of the aluminium hardeners. Arbitration,
if required, may be carried out by an organization which is recognized by both the
supplier and the buyer; the sampling shall be jointly done by the buyer.
6.2 Batch
Aluminium hardeners shall be submitted for inspection in batches, and each batch shall
be composed of aluminium hardeners of the same melting order.
6.3 Inspection items
Each batch shall be inspected for chemical composition, fracture structure and
appearance. Aluminium hardeners of designations AlTi6A, AlTi6, AlTi10A, AlTi10,
AlTi5B1A, AlTi5B1, AlZr5A, AlZr5, AlZr10A, AlZr10, AlZr15A, and AlZr15 shall
also be inspected for microstructure. When users have requirements for the
microstructure of aluminium hardeners of other designations, the required aluminium
hardeners shall be inspected for microstructure on a batch basis.
6.4 Sampling
The sampling of aluminium hardeners shall comply with the requirements in Table 7.
7 Marking, packaging, transportation and storage
7.1 Marking
7.1.1 Product marking
The aluminium hardener that has passed the inspection shall be accompanied by the
following imprint (or label):
a) designation;
b) melting order;
c) product category (ingot, wire coil or wire rod);
