Treatment and Processing of Waste Tyre
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms, definitions, methods, safety and environmental
protection requirements of the treatment and processing of waste tyre.
This Standard is applicable to the treatment and processing of waste tyre.
2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable to the application of this document. In
terms of references with a specified date, only versions with a specified date are
applicable to this document. In terms of references without a specified date, the latest
version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.
GB 4655 Safety Rules of Static Electricity in the Rubber Industry
GB 8978 Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard
GB 12348 Emission Standard for Industrial Enterprises Noise at Boundary
GB 15577 Safety Regulations for Dust Explosion Prevention and Protection
GB 16297 Integrated Emission Standard of Air Pollutants
GB 50483 Code for Design of Environmental Protection of Chemical Industry Projects
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Waste Tyre
Waste tyre refers to tyre that has lost its original use value and cannot be refurbished
for continued use.
3.2 Break Up
Break up refers to a mode of processing waste tyre that changes or makes the original
shape unrecoverable through physical methods like crushing.
3.3 Decomposition
Decomposition refers to a mode of processing waste tyre that changes or makes the
original shape unrecoverable through chemical and thermal treatment.
3.4 Direct Use
Direct use refers to a mode of processing waste tyre that directly or indirectly uses the
original characteristics of waste tyre without the decomposition treatment.
3.5 Disassembly
Disassembly refers to a mode of processing waste tyre that directly re-utilizes each
part of tyre after decomposition.
4 Processing Treatment
4.1 Break Up
4.1.1 General rules
Through physical methods, such as: crushing and grinding, process waste tyre into
usable materials.
4.1.2 Produce rubber powder (particle)
Crush and grind waste tyre into rubber particles of different particle sizes. The process
of producing rubber powder (particle) is to process waste tyre in the mode of stepwise
crushing after the separation of the bead wires to reach the required particle size. In
addition, during the crushing process, the steel wires and fibers are gradually
separated. The main methods of producing rubber powder (particle) include: normal-
temperature mechanical method and freezing method.
4.1.2.1 Room-temperature mechanical method
Under normal-temperature conditions, through the modes of shearing, tearing and
rolling, produce waste tyre into rubber powder (particle). The main methods include:
generating, roller, milling and cone grinding, etc. See the process flow in Figure 1.
The main equipment for producing rubber powder (particle) through the room-
temperature mechanical method include: bead separator, crusher, coarse crusher,
medium crusher, magnetic separator, fiber separator, fine crusher and screening
machine, etc.
