This Standard is applicable to Austenitic and precipitation-hardening stainless-steel spring wires that are used to make springs.

Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaces GB/T 24588-2009 ?€?Stainless steel wires for spring?€?. Compared with GB/T 24588-2009, main technical changes are as follows:
- tightened requirements for allowable diameter deviation of steel wires (see 6.2 of this Edition, 6.2 of Edition 2009);
- added 4 designations: 07Cr19Ni10, 06Cr18Ni11Ti, 12Cr18Mn12Ni2N and
04Cr12Ni8Cu2TiNb as well as relevant requirements (see Table 1, Table
4, Table 5, Table 6 and Table 7 of this Edition, Table 1, Table 4 and Table 5 of Edition 2009);
- modified representation modes for some designations: modified 06Cr19Ni9 to 06Cr19Ni10, 06Cr19Ni9N to 06Cr19Ni10N, 12Cr17Mn8Ni3Cu3N to
12Cr16Mn8Ni3Cu3N (see Table 1, Table 4, Table 5 of this Edition, Table
1, Table 4, Table 5 of Edition 2009);
- tightened nitrogen content of 12Cr18Mn9Ni5N and 12Cr16Mn8Ni3Cu3N,
from 0.05%~0.30% to 0.05%~0.25% (see Table 4 of this Edition, Table 4
of Edition 2009);
- expanded size range of steel wire twist test; modified nominal diameter from 0.50mm~4.00mm to 0.50mm~6.00mm (see 7.5.1 of this Edition, 7.5.1 of
Edition 2009);
- modified requirements for surface state of steel wires (see 7.2.2 of this Edition, 7.2.2 of Edition 2009);
- added technical requirements and methods for intergranular corrosion test of austenitic stainless steel (see 7.7 and Table 8 of this Edition);
- added comparison between different editions of designations of this
Standard (see Annex A of this Edition).
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies terms and definitions, order content, designations and groups, size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marks and quality certificate for stainless steel spring wires.
This Standard is applicable to Austenitic and precipitation-hardening stainless- steel spring wires that are used to make springs (hereinafter referred to as steel wires).

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 4240, GB/T 20878 as well as the followings apply.
3.1 pitch
Take a few circles of wire from coil or spool to make them in a free state. Then take a full circle of wire from them and take its midpoint in an unconstrained vertical suspension. The distance between two ends of wire at circle axis direction is called pitch.
3.2 diameter of free ring
Take a few circles of wire from coil or spool to make them in a free state. Then take a full circle of wire from them and place unconstrained on a horizontal plane. Outer diameter of traveler is diameter of free ring.
4 Order content
Order contract or order sheet according to this Standard shall include the following information:
7.6 Surface quality
Steel wire surface shall be free from defects that are harmful to use such as scars, folds, cracks, burrs, pits, scratches and scales. However, it is allowed to have individual pitting and scratches of which depth does not exceed half of dimensional tolerance. Straight-strip steel wire surface allows presence of spirals and lubricant residues.
7.7 Special requirements
According to purchaser?€?s requirements, Austenitic stainless-steel wires of which nominal diameter is greater than 1.00mm can be subject to intergranular corrosion test. Test methods are agreed by supplier and purchaser and
indicated in contract.
8 Test methods
Test items and test methods of steel wires shall comply with provisions of Table 8.
9 Inspection rules
9.1 Inspection and acceptance
9.1.1 Exit-factory inspection and acceptance of steel wires are carried out by quality department of supplier.
9.1.2 Inspection and acceptance of steel wires shall comply with provisions of GB/T 2103-2008.
9.2 Batching rules
Steel wires are checked and accepted in batches. Each batch consists of steel wires of same designation, of same furnace number, of same size and of same delivery state.
9.3 Sampling quantity and sampling position
Sampling quantity and sampling position of each batch of steel wires shall comply with provisions of Table 8.
9.4 Rules for re-inspection and determination
Rules for re-inspection and determination of steel wires shall comply with provisions of GB/T 2103-2008. When test results of mechanical properties and process properties fail, remove a certain length of steel wire coil from both ends
