Foreword
This Part of GB/T 2423 equivalently adopted IEC 60068-2-14:1984 (the original 68-2-
14:1984 English Edition) Basic Environmental Testing Procedures – Part 2: Tests –
Test N: Change of Temperature, and its amendment 1: 1986. The amendment can
refer to No. 259 document of 50B (Central Office).
The positions marked with double vertical line in this Part is the amendment in
Amendment 1:1986 of IEC 60068-2-14:1984.
This Part replaced GB/T 2423.22-1987 Basic Environmental Testing Procedures for
Electric and Electronic Products – Part 2: Test Methods – Test N: Change of
Temperature.
The major differences between this Part and GB/T 2423.22-1987 are as follows:
In order to keep consistent with the name of the GB/T 2423 Environmental Testing of
Electric and Electronic Products serial standards; the name of this Part is
Environmental Testing for Electric and Electronic Products – Part 2: Test Methods –
Test N: Change of Temperature.
The test methods of GB/T 2423.22-1987 equivalently adopted the international
standard IEC 60068-2-14 Basic Environmental Testing Procedures – Part 2: Tests –
Test N: Change of Temperature (1984 Edition) and its amendment 1: 1986. There are
differences in the fields of written forms and expression methods with IEC 60068-2-
14:1984.
According to the principle specified in the international standard adopted in 4.7 of GB/T
1.1-2000 Directives for Standardization – Part 1: Structure and Drafting of Standards;
this Part was equivalent to IEC 60068-2-14:1984 in the fields of technical contents, text
structure, wording, writing method and sequence, etc. This Part only makes individual
editorial changes in the format of writing.
This Part is one of the serial standards of GB/T 2423 Environmental Testing of Electric
and Electronic Products. The national standards corresponding to the IEC publishing
involved in this Part include:
GB/T 2423.1-2001 Environmental Testing for Electric and Electronic and Electronic
Products - Part 2: Test Methods - Tests A: Cold (idt IEC 60068-2-1:1990)
GB/T 2423.2-2001 Environmental Testing for Electric and Electronic Products - Part 2:
Test Methods - Tests B: Dry Heat (idt IEC 60068-2-2:1974)

Environmental Testing for Electric and Electronic
Products - Part 2: Test Methods - Test N: Change of
Temperature
Introduction
A change of temperature test is intended to determine the effect on the specimen of a
change of temperature or a succession of changes of temperature.
It is not intended to show effects which are due only to the high or low temperature.
For these effects, the dry heat test or the cold test should be used.
The effect of such tests is determined by the following parameters:
- values of high and low conditioning temperature between which the change is to
be effected;
- the conditioning times for which the test specimen is kept at these temperatures;
- the rate of change between these temperatures;
- the number of cycles of conditioning;
- the amount of heat transfer into or from the specimen.
Guidance on the choice of suitable test parameters for inclusion in the detail
specification is given in GB/T 2424.13-2002: Environmental Testing for Electric and
Electronic Products - Part 2: Tests - Guidance on Change of Temperature Tests, which
should be read in conjunction with this Part.
1. Test Na: Rapid Change of Temperature with
Prescribed Time of Transition
1.1 Objective
This test determines the ability of components, equipment or other articles to withstand
rapid changes of ambient temperature. The exposure times adequate to accomplish
this will depend upon the nature of the specimen.
