Foreword
GB/T 2423.16 is Part 16 of GB/T 2423. See the informative appendix NA for the
composition of GB/T 2423.
This Part identically adopts IEC 60068-2-10:2005 " Environmental testing - Part
2-10: Tests - Test J and guidance: Mould growth" (English version). The main
editorial modifications are as follows:
- deleted the foreword of IEC 60068-2-10:2005;
- add the foreword to this Part;
- add the introduction of the list of normative references;
- refer the national standards that correspond to the international standards;
- add the corresponding strain preservation number of China Institute of
Microbiology in Table 1 of 6.1;
- there are omissions in the article number in Annex C of IEC 60068-2-
10:2005, which is now added with a footnote;
- in D.2, add a footnote:2) The original text of IEC is "Pressure is 10kPa
(1bar)". Because 1bar is 100kPa, the original text is incorrect, so it is
corrected in this Part.
This Part replaces GB/T 2423.16-1999 "Environmental testing for electric and
electronic products - Part 2: Tests - Test J and guidance: Mould growth".
Compared with it, the main changes in this Part are as follows:
- add Figure B.1;
- replace the two test fungi by another two test fungi;
- specify the spore concentration of a single test fungus;
- prescribe the initial state of the sample through damp and heat storage;
- use ultrasonic atomization of spore suspension as a recommended method
of inoculation;
- shorten the duration of cultivation from 84d to 56d;
- divide the degree of mildew growth 2 into two grades 2a and 2b;
- Annex B gives detailed vaccination methods;

1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 2423 provides a test method for determining the extent to
which electrotechnical products support mould growth and how any mould
growth may affect the performance and other relevant properties of the product.
Since mould growth conditions include high relative humidity, the test is
applicable to electrotechnical products intended for transportation, storage and
use under humid conditions over a period of some days at least.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part of
GB/T 2423 through reference in this Part of GB/T 2423. For dated references,
the subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply
to this Standard, however, parties who reach an agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are
applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced
document applies.

This test covers the inoculation of electrotechnical products with a selection of
mould spores followed by a period of incubation under conditions which
promote spore germination and the growth of mould.
