Scope

This Part of GB/T 230 specifies the principles, symbols and instructions, test equipment,
specimens, test procedures, uncertainty of results and test report for Rockwell hardness and
surface Rockwell hardness tests of metallic materials.
It is worth noting that cemented carbide ball indenters are standard Rockwell hardness indenters.
If specified in product standards or agreements, steel ball indenters are allowed to be used.
NOTE 1.it needs to be pointed out that different results will be obtained when using two types of
balls for hardness test. Other standards apply to special materials or products.
NOTE 2.for some materials, the scope of application may be narrower than specified.
