Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the rules provided in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for Standardization - Part 1: Rules for the Structure and Drafting of Standardizing Documents. This document is Part 1 of GB/T 2099 Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar Purposes. GB/T 2099 has issued the following parts:

This document serves as a replacement of GB/T 2099.1-2008 Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar Purposes - Part 1: General Requirements. In comparison with GB/T 2099.1-2008, apart from structural adjustments and editorial modifications, the main technical changes are as follows:
--The ambient temperature of product use is modified (see Chapter 1; Chapter 1 of Version 2008);
---Some normative references are modified (see Chapter 2; Chapter 2 of Version 2008); ---The definitions of 3.1 plug, 3.2 socket-outlet, 3.4 portable socket-outlet, 3.16 screw- type terminal, 3.33 main part are modified; the definitions of 3.34 grommet, 3.35 entry membrane, 3.36 protecting membrane, 3.37 tool are added; in accordance with GB/T 2099.2-2012, the definition of 3.6 is modified (see Chapter 3; Chapter 3 of Version 2008);

---The description of the pendulum impact test equipment is deleted and modified into the direct reference to the content of GB/T 2423.55 (test EHA); the height of fall in Table 21 is modified (see 24.2; 24.1 of Version 2008);

This document adopts the re-drafting method for the modification and adoption of IEC 60884- 1:2013 Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar Purposes - Part 1: General Requirements.
In comparison with IEC 60884-1:2013, this document has some structural adjustments. In order to avoid suspended paragraphs, the numbering of clauses 10.2, 14.10, 14.23, Chapter 17, Chapter 19, Chapter 22, Chapter 24, Chapter 25, 28.1 and Chapter 30 is adjusted; due to the existence of second-level clauses, the clause titles of the first-level clauses in Chapter 10, Chapter 13, Chapter 14 and Chapter 24 are added.
The technical differences between this document and IEC 60884-1:2013, and the causes for these differences are as follows:
---In terms of Normative References, this document makes adjustments with technical differences, so as to adapt to the technical conditions of China. The adjustments are intensively reflected in Chapter 2 “Normative References”. See the specific adjustments below:
 GB/T 2423.4, which equivalently adopts international standard, is used to replace IEC 60668-2-30;
 GB/T 2423.7, which equivalently adopts international standard, is used to replace IEC 60668-2-31;
 GB/T 2423.55, which equivalently adopts international standard, is used to replace IEC 60668-2-75;
Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar
Purposes - Part 1: General Requirements
1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements for the marking, electric-shock protection, structure, electrical performance and mechanical performance of plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes.
This document applies to plugs and fixed or portable socket-outlets for a.c. only, with or without earthing contact, with a rated voltage greater than 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A, intended for household and similar purposes, either indoors or outdoors.
The rated current is limited to 16 A maximum for fixed socket-outlets provided with screwless terminals.
This document does not cover requirements for flush mounting boxes: however, it covers only those requirements for surface-type mounting boxes which are necessary for the tests on the socket-outlet.
NOTE 1: general requirements for mounting boxes are given in GB/T 17466. This document also applies to plugs which are a part of cord sets, to plugs and portable socket- outlets which are a part of cord extension sets and to plugs and socket-outlets which are a component of an appliance, unless otherwise stated in the standard for the relevant appliance. This document does not apply to:
---plugs, socket-outlets and couplers for industrial purposes;
---appliance couplers;
---plugs, fixed or portable socket-outlets for ELV;
NOTE 2: ELV values are specified in GB/T 16895.21.
---fixed socket-outlets combined with fuses, automatic switches, etc.
NOTE 3: socket-outlets with pilot lights are allowed provided that pilot lights comply with the relevant standard, if any.
Plugs and socket-outlets complying with this document should be suitable for use at ambient temperatures not normally exceeding +40 °C, but their average over a period of 24 h does not exceed +35 °C, with a lower limit of the ambient air temperature of –5 °C. The means for achieving this shall be such that they cannot easily be operated by anything other than a plug and shall not depend upon parts which are liable to be lost. An electrical indicator with a voltage between 40 V and 50 V included is used to show contact with the relevant part.
Compliance is checked by inspection and for socket-outlets with a plug completely withdrawn by applying the above gauges as follows.
The gauge according to Figure 9 is applied to the entry holes corresponding to the live contacts with a force of 20 N.
The gauge is applied to the shutters in the most unfavorable position, successively in three directions, to the same place for approximately 5 s in each of the three directions. During each application the gauge shall not be rotated, and it shall be applied in such a way that the 20 N force is maintained. When moving the gauge from one direction to the next, no force is applied but the gauge shall not be withdrawn.
A steel gauge, according to Figure 10, is then applied with a force of 1 N and in three directions, for approximately 5 s in each direction, with independent movements, withdrawing the gauge after each movement.
For socket-outlets with enclosures or bodies of thermoplastic material, the test is made at an ambient temperature of (40  2) °C, both the socket-outlets and the gauge being at this temperature.
10.6 Deformation of Earthing Contacts
Earthing contacts, if any, of a socket-outlet shall be so designed that they cannot be deformed by the insertion of a plug, to such an extent that safety is impaired.
Compliance is checked by the following test.
10.7 Socket-outlets with Reinforced Protection
Socket-outlets with or without lid, classified according to 7.2.1, shall be so constructed that, when mounted and wired as in normal use, live parts shall not be accessible with a test wire of 1 mm in diameter (see Figure 10).
Compliance is checked by applying with a test wire of 1.0 mm in diameter (see Figure 10) a force of 1 N on all accessible surfaces in the most unfavorable conditions without a plug inserted with the lid, if any, open.
For socket-outlets with enclosures or bodies of thermoplastic material, the test is made at an ambient temperature of (40  2) °C, both the socket-outlets and the gauge being at this temperature.
