1 Scope
This Part specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, mark, package, transportation and storage of polybutylene terephthalate of secondary coating materials used for optical fiber.
This Part is applicable to the manufacture, use and acceptance of secondary coating materials PBT used for optical fiber loose tube.

3 Requirements
3.1 Appearance
The product is the milky white, milky yellow or colorless transparent cylindrical particles with diameter of 2mm~4mm, length of 2mm~4mm. The particles shall be smooth, free of impurities and free of beads.
3.2 Physical and mechanical properties and electrical properties
The physical and mechanical properties and electrical properties of PBT materials shall meet the requirements of Table 1.

* is typical value of melting index. Supplier and purchaser of material can determine as per specific conditions of their own production and use 4.2 Specimen preparation
The specimen preparation required by each property in Table 1 shall, refer to the method specified in GB/T 17037.1, specially performed according to the method specified in Appendix A (normative).
4.3 Standard environment for conditioning and testing of plastic specimens It shall be performed according to the Conditions 2, 3, 4 in GB/T 2918-1998. 4.4 Density
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 1033.
4.5 Melt index
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 3682-2000. The specimen must be dried for 4h at 100??C.
4.6 Moisture content
It shall be performed according to the method specified in Appendix B (normative). 4.7 Coefficient of water saturation
It shall be performed according to the Method 1 specified in GB/T 1034-1998. 4.8 Tensile yield strength, tensile yield elongation, elongation at break, tensile modulus of elasticity
4.8.1 It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 1040. Adopt the Type-I standard specimen.
4.8.2 The test speed for the following properties such as tensile yield strength, yield elongation, elongation at break shall be 50mm/min; while the test speed for the tensile modulus of elasticity shall be 5mm/min.
4.9 Bending strength, bending modulus of elasticity
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 9341. Adopt the standard specimen of (80??10??4) mm3-type. The test speed shall be (2.0??0.4) mm/min. 4.10 Melting point
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 2951.37. 4.11 Shore hardness HD
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 2411.
4.12 Izod impact strength
4.12.1 It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 1843. The length and width of the standard specimen are 80mm and 10.2mm, respectively; the height range is 4mm~10.2mm.
4.12.2 In the middle of the standard specimen in 4.12.1, a notch with (45??1) ??, and a curvature radius (R) of the bottom of (0.25??0.05) mm shall be machined; the remaining part of the notch is (8??0.2) mm Type-A notch specimen. The notched Type-A standard specimen can also be made from a single injection of the notched standard specimen mold.
4.13 Linear expansion factor
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 1036.
4.14 Volume resistivity
It shall be performed according to the method specified in GB/T 1410. Take the standard specimen with diameter of 100mm, thickness no greater than 2mm. 4.15 Deflection temperature under load
It shall be performed according to Method-A using bending stress of 1.80MPa, or Method-B using bending stress of 0.45MPa specified in GB/T 1634. Take the standard specimen of (80??10??4) mm3. The specimen in the test shall be placed horizontally. 4.16 Intrinsic viscosity
It shall be performed according to the method specified in ISO 1628-5-1986 (E). The solution shall use the mixed solvents between 1,2 dichlorobenzene and phenol in a ratio of 1:1.
4.17 Thermal hydrolysis property
The test method of thermal hydrolysis properties may be selected according to the actual situation of the material supplier and purchaser.
4.17.1 Determination of strength
4.17.1.1 The specimen shall be the Type-I dumbbell standard specimen specified in GB/T 1040, and prepared according to the Appendix A (Normative).
4.17.1.2 Test the strength of the specimen after thermal hydrolysis performance test in accordance with the requirements in Appendix C (normative).
4.17.2 Determination of intrinsic viscosity
4.17.2.1 Take about 5g of PBT pellets; place them in a constant temperature and humidity box with temperature controlled at (85??1) ??C, humidity controlled at (85??5) % for 30 days; take them out and adjust for 24h at the 23??C environment.
4.17.2.2 Determine the viscosity of the materials according to the method specified in 4.16.
4.18 Compatibility between material and filling ointment
4.18.1 The specimen shall be the Type-I dumbbell standard specimen specified in GB/T 1040, and prepared according to the Appendix A (Normative).
4.18.2 Follow the method specified in Appendix D (normative) to test the compatibility of materials.
5 Inspection Rules
Inspection can be divided into exit-factory inspection, type inspection, and user acceptance inspection.
5.1 Exit-factory inspection
5.1.1 The exit-factory inspection shall perform the sampling inspection according to GB/T 2828.1. This Part specifies that the products produced in the same time section, by the same raw materials, and the same process are one batch. When the yield is large, the quantity of each batch must not exceed 50t.
5.1.2 Each batch of PBT products shall be inspected by the quality inspection department of the material manufacturer. The product can only leave the factory after passing the inspection. The exit-factory products shall be accompanied by a quality inspection certificate.
5.1.3 According to the requirements of Clause 3, the inspection items in 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1 are the exit-factory inspection items.
5.1.4 If the exit-factory inspection is unqualified, then the products shall be unqualified. If product properties do not meet the requirements in 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1, then it is said that the exit-factory inspection is unqualified.
If there are one or more unqualified unit products, then they are called unqualified products.
5.2 Type inspection
5.2.1 Type inspection shall be carried out according to the provisions of GB/T 2829. Random sampling inspection shall be taken from one batch or several batches that pass the exit-factory inspection to judge whether the stability and reliability of the products during the producing period meet the requirements of this Part. 5.2.2 Type inspection shall be performed at least once every 6 months. All items in 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1 shall be inspected.
5.2.3 Type inspection shall be carried out in one of the following situations: a) When products are performing stereotyping appraisement;
b) When the changes in raw materials, processes, and equipment may influence the product performances after the formal production;
c) When production is restored after long-term shut-down;
d) When there is a big difference between the exit-factory inspection results and the previous type inspection results;
e) When the State Technical Supervision Bureau proposes to carry out the type inspection.
5.2.4 Qualified and unqualified type inspection
a) Qualified inspection:
If product properties meet the requirements of each property in 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1, then the type inspection is qualified.
b) Unqualified inspection
If there are one or more unqualified unit products, then the type inspection is called unqualified.
5.2.5 Treatment of unqualified type inspection
If the type inspection is unqualified, t hen the material manufacturer shall immediately stop the exit-factory inspection. Immediately analyse the cause, take measures and eliminate the unqualified factors till the new type inspection is qualified, can the exit- factory inspection be restored.
5.3 User acceptance inspection
5.3.1 The user acceptance inspection shall examine all the items in 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1 of Clause 3.
5.3.2 For products that have been ordered for delivery, the manufacturer shall, in principle, allow returns as long as one item is found not to meet the requirements of 3.1 and 3.2 Table 1 in Clause 3. However, it shall, under the supervision of the industry?€?s authoritative quality inspection agency, jointly form an inspection group by the supplier and the purchaser to reinspect, or reinspect by the industry?€?s authoritative quality inspection agency. In principle, the re-inspection is only against the unqualified items.
6 Mark, Package, Transportation and Storage
6.1 Mark
6.1.1 The packaging bag of the products that inspected qualified shall be indicated the name of the materials, code, trademark, designation, batch number (or date of production), standard number, quality, manufacturer (including address, telephone, post code); and have the marks for ?€?heat-proof?€? and ?€?moisture-proof?€?.
6.1.2 Each batch of products delivered shall have product inspection report sheet and certificate of conformity.
6.2 Package
The product is applied with negative pressure packaging with inner packaging of composite metal film and outer packaging bag with moisture-proof composite paper; or negative pressure packaging with packaging bags negotiated between the supplier and the purchaser. The net mass per bag is 25kg or the mass that is recognized by both the supplier and the purchaser.
6.3 Transportation
When transporting the products, do not expose them to the sun and rain; and keep them dry, clean, intact and pollution-free.
6.4 Storage
The products shall be stored in a clean, dry, cool and ventilated warehouse. The storage period shall be one year since the date of production.
Appendix A
(Normative)
Preparation of Standard Specimen for Secondary Coating
Materials
A.1 Applicable scope
This method is applicable to the preparation of standard specimens required for the material property test in Table 1.
A.2 Method summary
Specimens shall be prepared by one-step injection molding method.
A.3 Devices
A.3.1 Injection molding machine: screw injection molding machine or plunger injection molding machine.
A.3.2 Mold: according to the mold of standard specimen required for various properties in standards of the normative references.
A.4 Injection molding condition
A.4.1 Material temperature: the temperature shall be gradually raised according to the melting state of the materials. The temperature distribution of the barrel is (220~240) ??C, (220~240) ??C, (210~230) ??C.
A.4.2 Mouth mold temperature (??C) for the material injection: 220~240.
A.4.3 Mold temperature (??C): 50~60.
A.4.4 Injection molding time (s): 7.
A.4.5 Dwell time (s): 15.
A.4.6 Injection molding pressure (MPa): 7??1.
A.4.7 Mold opening time (s): 12.
A.4.8 Cooling speed: after the injection of each specimen, take out the mold and cooled it off naturally at 23??C environment.
A.4.9 Injection molding cycle (s): 40 (except the equipment pre-heat time). A.4.10 The maximum injection molding quantity is 50% of the rated capacity of the equipment.
A.5 Injection molding procedures
A.5.1 Place about 2kg of granular specimen into an oven at (100??1) ??C to dry it for at least 8h.
A.5.2 Raise the temperature of the injection molding machine barrel step by step. A.5.3 Add 2kg of materials to the hopper of the screw injection molding machine or the hopper of the plunger injection molding machine.
A.5.4 Allow the injection molding machine to inject freely; according to the molten state of the materials that are freely injection into a suitable container, adjust the temperature of the various levels of barrels and the temperature of mouth mold.
A.5.5 Mold-closing injection, inject materials into the standard mold, which shall be finished in 7s.
A.5.6 Pressurizing to ensure that the pressure of the materials in the injection barrel is constant at (7??1) MPa; maintain for 15s.
A.5.7 Mold-opening, take out the standard specimen from the mold and cooled it off naturally at 23??C environment; after 12s, repeat the procedures of A.5.5. Appendix B
