Scope

This Standard specifies test methods of the breaking strength, elongation at break, initial
modulus, and tensile creep properties for high tenacity filament yarns.
This Standard is applicable to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers, aromatic
polyamide (aramid) fibers, carbon fibers, and other high tenacity filament yarns (generally
defined as filament yarns with a breaking strength greater than 10 cN/dtex).
The test method of the tensile creep properties specified in this Standard is not applicable to
filament yarns that exhibit an elongation change of more than 5% when subjected to a load of
1 cN/dtex for 1 min.
