Foreword
This Standard identically adopts ISO 14732.1998 "Welding personnel -
Approval testing of welding operators for fusion welding and of resistance weld
setters for fully mechanized and automatic welding of metallic materials"
(English version).
In order to ensure the standard coordination and operability, this Standard
makes the necessary editorial changes in the equivalent of the translation of
the international standard.
Compared with ISO 14732.1998, this Standard has the following changes in
the content.
- directly used the definitions of GB/T 3375 "Welding terminology" for "fully
mechanized welding" and "automatic welding";
- the term "welding operator" has a broader meaning and includes resistance
weld setter;
- in view of the fact that several normative references in ISO 14732 are being
revised, this Standard has been dealt with in the corresponding provisions
in light of the actual situation in China.
This Standard was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Welding of Standardization Administration of China.
Main drafting organizations of this Standard. Harbin Welding Research Institute,
Harbin Welding Technology Training Center.
Main drafters of this Standard. Piao Dongguang, Qian Qiang.
Qualification test of welding operators
1 Scope
This Standard specifies requirements for approval of welding operators for
fusion welding and resistance weld setters for fully mechanized and automatic
welding processes of metallic materials. Only welding operators/resistance
weld setters responsible for the setting up and/or adjustment during welding
have to be approved. Personnel exclusively performing the programming of the
welding unit or operation of the welding unit do not need any particular approval.
This Standard is applicable when approval testing of operators/resistance weld
setters is required by the contract or by the application standard.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute the provisions of this Standard. For dated references,
subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these
documents are applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest
versions apply to this Standard.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, in addition to the relevant terms of GB/T
3375, the following terms and definitions also apply.
3.1 function test.
Test of a welding unit set-up in accordance with a Welding Procedure
Specification (WPS).
3.2 pre-production welding test.
Welding test having the same function as a welding procedure test, but based
on a non-standard test piece, simulating production conditions.
