Scope

This document describes several methods for the thermal analysis of polymers and polymer
blends using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method, such as:
---thermoplastics (polymers, molding compounds and other molding materials with or
without fillers, fibers, or other reinforcing materials);
---thermosets (uncured or cured materials with or without fillers, fibers, or other
reinforcing materials);
---elastomers (with or without fillers, fibers, or other reinforcing materials).
This document is applicable to the study and determination of relevant properties of the
aforementioned materials, such as:
---physical transitions (glass transition, phase transitions, such as melting, crystallization,
polymorphic transitions, etc.);
---chemical reactions (polymerization, cross-linking or curing of elastomers and
thermosets, etc.);
---oxidative stability;
---specific heat capacity.
This document specifies general requirements for differential scanning calorimetry, such as
principles and instruments, sampling, calibration, as well as general test procedures and test
reports applicable to other parts.
