This Standard identically adopts international standard ISO 9205:1988
“Refractory bricks for use in rotary kilns - Hot-face identification marking”.
This Standard was proposed by National Bureau of Metallurgical Industry.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Refractory of Standardization Administration of China.
Main drafting organizations of this Standard: China Academy of Building
Materials Science.
The drafting organizations of this Standard: State-owned Yixing Refractory
Equipment Factory, State-owned Xinmi Refractory Material Factory.

identification marking
1 Scope
This Standard specifies hot-face identification marking for refractory bricks for
use in rotary kilns.
This Standard is applicable to the identification marking for simply and quickly
checking whether the wedge-shaped refractory bricks are built in the correct
direction and the refractory bricks used for different kiln diameters.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication, the
editions indicated are valid. All standards are subject to revision. The parties
who are using this Standard shall explore the possibility of using the latest
version of the following standards.

5417:1986)
3 Technical requirements
The "notch" system (clause 4) shall be used as the principal method of marking.
The colour coding system (clause 5) shall be used as an additional extra system
where requested.
NOTE: The need for colour coding should be agreed between manufacturer and purchaser.
4 "Notch" system
4.1 Types of notch
Each notch shall be distinct and shall penetrate into the brick so that it is easily
recognized. The notches shall have rounded edges. Three types of notches are
illustrated in Figure 1, and one of these types shall be used. The dimensions of
the notch are not critical.
