Foreword
This Standard replaces GB 18159-2000 “Specifications of amusement rides
coaster category”. Compared with GB 18159-2000, the main changes of this
Standard are.
- Chapter 1 “Scope”
SPECIFY the design, manufacture, installation, modification, maintenance,
test, inspection, and use management of coasters.
- ADD the following contents.
Chapter 7 “Track and support column”;
Chapter 8 “Vehicle”;
Chapter 9 “Safety facilities”;
Chapter 10 “Manufacture and installation”;
Appendix A.
- CHANGE the previous “Technical requirements” to Chapter 4 “Basic design
provisions”;
ADD various loads to be considered in the design;
ADD design calculations. including stress, stiffness calculation, fatigue
strength, etc.
- Chapter 11 “Test procedures”.
ADD acceleration test requirements.
- ADJUST the previous “non-destructive testing” content. When the vehicle
speed is not less than 50 km/h, instead of no less than 70% radiographic
testing being carried out on the butt weld of track, 100% ultrasonic testing
shall be carried out on the butt weld and if necessary, radiographic testing
shall be carried out. Also, ADD testing requirements for bridge frame, wheel
frame, vehicle connector, and other welded structures.
Appendix A of this Standard is normative.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National
Technical Committee on Standardization of Ropeway, Amusement Ride and
Recreation Facilities.
Specifications of amusement rides coaster category
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the specifications and technical requirements of
amusement rides coaster category.
This Standard is applicable to the design, manufacture, installation,
modification, maintenance, test, inspection, and use management of
amusement rides coaster category.
2 Normative references
The clauses in the following documents, through reference in this Standard,
constitute the clauses of this Standard. For the dated references, all their
subsequent amendments (excluding errata content) or revisions do not apply
to this Standard. However, parties who have reached agreement according to
this Standard are encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these
documents can be used. For the undated references, the latest version is
applicable to this Standard.

3 General
3.1 Amusement rides coaster category refers to amusement rides which glide
along a rigid track, have an inertial glide feature, and have a similar form of
movement (including amusement equipment which runs along a fixed track in
water).
3.2 The design, manufacture, installation, modification, maintenance, test,
inspection, and use management of amusement rides coaster category shall
comply with the relevant provisions of this Standard and GB 8408-2008.
3.3 The design, manufacture, installation, and use of amusement rides coaster
category shall ensure personal safety.
3.4 Other requirements not mentioned in this Standard shall be implemented
according to relevant national standards, codes, and regulations.
4 Basic design provisions
5.1 The design of drive system shall ensure the safety of operation. In the event
of a failure of this system, the vehicle shall be in a safe state. Amusement rides
coaster category, when starting, shall not obviously skid; and the drive
mechanism shall operate normally.
5.2 Mechanical drive part shall meet the requirements of 5.3.2, 5.3.3, 5.3.4,
5.3.5, 5.3.6, 5.3.7 in GB 8408-2008.
5.3 When using gear and rack drives, it shall comply with the relevant standards
for gear and rack; and shall comply with the requirements of 5.3.3 of GB 8408-
2008. Contact spot requirements and measurement methods for gear meshing
shall be in accordance with GB 50231.
5.4 When using belt drive, the assembly requirements shall meet the
requirements in GB 50231. The belt shall be tensioned moderately; and there
shall be no obvious deviation phenomenon. The guiding device shall be flexible
and reliable.
5.5 When adopting steel wire rope and chain drives, it shall be tensioned
moderately; and it shall meet the requirements of 5.3.8 in GB 8408-2008. When
using steel wire rope for lifting, there shall be a device for preventing the wire
rope over-winding and loosening. The allowable value of wear of the steel wire
rope shall comply with the provisions of 9.4 of GB 8408-2008.
5.6 Hydraulic and pneumatic systems shall comply with the provisions of 5.4 of
GB 8408-2008.
6 Electrical and control systems
6.1 The electrical system shall comply with the provisions of 6.1 of GB 8408-
2008 and the provisions of GB 5226.1.
6.2 The control system shall comply with the provisions of 6.2 of GB 8408-2008
and the provisions of GB/T 16855.1. The control system which uses
electrical/electronic/programmable devices shall meet GB/T 20438 (all parts).
6.3 The control of speed limiting device and stop block shall comply with the
requirements of 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 in GB 8408-2008.
6.4 Safety protection shall comply with the provisions of 6.4 of GB 8408-2008,
in which the design of emergency stop, and braking devices shall be in
accordance with the provisions of GB 16754.
6.5 Electrical installation shall comply with the provisions of 6.5 of GB 8408-
2008.

Where the safety of passengers is endangered, there shall be appropriate
safety measures.
9.2 The setting of safety marking shall comply with the provisions of 7.1.6 in GB
8408-2008.
9.3 Coasters, which use steel wire rope for driving (or steering), shall comply
with the requirements of 7.2.3 in GB 8408-2008.
9.4 The vehicle connectors shall be reasonable in structure, flexible in rotation,
and be equipped with safety devices.
9.5 When there are two or more groups of bicycles or trains running on the
same track, automatic control devices and buffer devices shall be provided to
prevent mutual collision.
9.6 Coasters, which are towed along a slope or in a vertical direction, shall be
provided with anti-vehicle retrograde devices in the lift section. The anti-
retrograde device shall be reliable in operation. In the area where the vehicle
may unexpectedly stop or used for maintenance along the track, there shall be
a safe walkway or passenger diversion measures. The passenger diversion
measures shall meet the requirements for safe diversion of passengers at any
position in the lift section.
9.7 In the lift section, when the power supply is suddenly cut off or the
equipment stops due to a malfunction, after the power supply is restored, the
coaster shall be able to resume normal operation, to ensure the safety of the
equipment and personnel.
9.8 The safety restraint devices for passengers shall comply with the provisions
of 7.6 of GB 8408-2008.
9.9 The braking device shall comply with the provisions of 7.7 of GB 8408-2008.
9.10 When the height of the coaster’s track from the ground is greater than 15
m, lightning protection devices shall be provided. The grounding resistance
shall not exceed 30 Ω.
10 Manufacture and installation
10.1 General provisions shall comply with the provisions of 8.1 of GB 8408-
2008.
radiographic testing methods and quality assessment shall comply with the
provisions of 8.13.5 of GB 8408-2008.
10.12 In accordance with the needs of the site, necessary rescue facilities shall
be provided and shall comply with the provisions of 9.2.2 of GB 8408-2008.
10.13 The setting of safety fences, platforms, ladders, and consoles shall
comply with the provisions of 7.8 of GB 8408-2008.
11 Test procedures
11.1 Any new products, products of plant-transfer manufacture, and products
with major improvements, before leaving the factory, shall be subjected to
relevant tests according to this Standard.
11.2 Test conditions
11.2.1 During the open-air test, the wind speed shall not exceed 8 m/s.
11.2.2 The ambient temperature during the test is generally between
0 °C~40 °C. The environment relative humidity is not more than 85%.
11.2.3 The error between the test load and the rated load shall not exceed ±5%.
11.3 Test instruments
11.3.1 According to test requirements, SELECT test instruments and measuring
tools with corresponding accuracy.
11.3.2 The instruments and measuring tools used for the tests shall be certified
by the department of legal metrology and checked before and after the tests.
11.4 The safety device test shall meet the requirements of this Standard.
11.5 The test of fiber reinforced plastics shall be conducted in accordance with
the provisions of GB/T 1447, GB/T 1449, and GB/T 1451.
11.6 No-load test
11.6.1 PERFORM manual and automatic tests respectively, more than 5 times
each.
11.6.2 According to the actual working conditions, continuously RUN the test
for 8 h.

Foreword
This Standard replaces GB 18159-2000 “Specifications of amusement rides
coaster category”. Compared with GB 18159-2000, the main changes of this
Standard are.
- Chapter 1 “Scope”
SPECIFY the design, manufacture, installation, modification, maintenance,
test, inspection, and use management of coasters.
- ADD the following contents.
Chapter 7 “Track and support column”;
Chapter 8 “Vehicle”;
Chapter 9 “Safety facilities”;
Chapter 10 “Manufacture and installation”;
Appendix A.
- CHANGE the previous “Technical requirements” to Chapter 4 “Basic design
provisions”;
ADD various loads to be considered in the design;
ADD design calculations. including stress, stiffness calculation, fatigue
strength, etc.
- Chapter 11 “Test procedures”.
ADD acceleration test requirements.
- ADJUST the previous “non-destructive testing” content. When the vehicle
speed is not less than 50 km/h, instead of no less than 70% radiographic
testing being carried out on the butt weld of track, 100% ultrasonic testing
shall be carried out on the butt weld and if necessary, radiographic testing
shall be carried out. Also, ADD testing requirements for bridge frame, wheel
frame, vehicle connector, and other welded structures.
Appendix A of this Standard is normative.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National
Technical Committee on Standardization of Ropeway, Amusement Ride and
Recreation Facilities.
