Scope

This document describes high-performance liquid chromatography method and o-
phenylenediamine fluorescence method for the determination of total ascorbic acid in
feeds.
The high-performance liquid chromatography method described in this document
applies to the determination of L-ascorbic acid, D-isoascorbic acid, and total ascorbic
acid in compound feeds, concentrated feeds, and additive premixed feeds; the o-
phenylenediamine fluorescence method applies to the determination of total ascorbic
acid in compound feeds, concentrated feeds, and additive premixed feeds.
This document does not apply to the determination of total ascorbic acid in feeds
supplemented in the form of esterified ascorbic acid.
For the high-performance liquid chromatography method described in this document,
the limit of detection for both L-ascorbic acid and D-isoascorbic acid is 5 mg/kg, and
the limit of quantitation for both is 20 mg/kg; for the o-phenylenediamine fluorescence
method, the limit of detection is 8 mg/kg, and the limit of quantitation is 25 mg/kg.
