Foreword
GB/T 17738 "Radio frequency and coaxial cable assemblies" is divided into the
following parts:
- Part 1: Generic specification - General requirements and test methods;
- Part 2: Sectional specification for flexible coaxial cable assemblies;
- Part 3: Sectional specification for semi-flexible coaxial cable assemblies;
- Part 4: Sectional specification for semi-rigid coaxial cable assemblies;
This Part is Part 1 of GB/T 17738.
This Part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 17738.1-1999 "Radio-frequency and coaxial cable
assemblies - Part 1: Generic specification - General requirements and test
methods".
Compared with GB/T 17738.1-1999, the main technical changes in this Part are
as follows:
- COMBINE “Scope” and “Object” into “Scope” (see clause 1; clauses 1 and
2 of the 1999 edition).
- ADD procedures for capability approval (see E.3.2).
- Delete Annex A Measurement method of reflection factor (see Annex A of
the 1999 edition).
- ADD requirement and calculation method for the number of measurement
points (see 8.1).
- In the test for stability of electrical length, add two test methods of bending
and twisting (see 8.6.2.1 and 8.6.2.2).
- Delete discharge test (corona test) (see 9.13).
- ADD the test method for power rating (see 8.14).
- ADD intermodulation level (see 8.15).
- ADD torque (see 9.5).
- ADD multiple bending (see 9.6).
- ADD abrasion test of cable assembly (see 9.7).
- In salt mist and sulphur dioxide tests, add “Requirements” (see 10.8) and
“Information to be given in the detail specification” (see 10.8.3).
- ADD dust tests (10.9).
- ADD flammability (see 10.10).
This Part, using translation method, is identical to IEC 60966-1:1999 "Radio
frequency and coaxial cable assemblies - Part 1: Generic specification -
General requirements and test methods".
This Part has made the following editorial changes:
- ADD the number of formulas in the annex and correct the error parts of
formula (A.1) and formula (C.1)~formula (C.4).
- ADD "Table C.1 Symbols" to Annex C, to clarify the meaning of the symbols
in each formula.
- ADD Annex F (informative), Naming of type number, to provide parameters
for industry naming.

international documents normatively referenced in this Part are as follows:
- GB/T 11313 (all parts) Radio-frequency connectors [IEC 61169 (all parts)]
- GB/T 17737 (all parts) Coaxial communication cables [IEC 61196 (all parts)]

and test methods
1 Scope
This Part specifies requirements for radio frequency coaxial cable assemblies
operating in the transverse electromagnetic mode (TEM) and establishes
general requirements for testing the electrical, mechanical and environmental
properties of radio frequency coaxial cable assemblies composed of cables and
connectors. Additional requirements relating to specific families of cable
assemblies are given in the relevant sectional specifications.
Note 1: The design of the cables and connectors used should preferably conform to the
applicable parts of IEC 61196 and IEC 61169 respectively.
Note 2: This Part does not include tests which are normally performed on the cables and
connectors separately. These tests are described in the applicable parts of IEC
61196 and IEC 61169 respectively.
Note 3: Wherever possible, cables and connectors used in cable assemblies, even if they
are not described in the IEC 61196 or IEC 61169 series are tested separately
according to the tests given in the relevant generic specification.
Note 4: Where additional protection is applied to a cable assembly, the mechanical and
environmental tests described in this Part are applicable.
