This Standard specifies the small sample bench test procedure and the grades and marks of friction coefficients for the friction wear of brake linings for automobile. This Standard applies to automobile disc brake linings and automobile drum brake linings. This Standard does not apply to parking brake linings.

Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaces GB/T 17469-1998, Road vehicles-brake linings ?€? Evaluation of friction material characteristics ?€? Small sample bench test procedure. Compared with GB/T 17469-1998, the major technical changes are as follows: -- Delete the introduction;
-- Delete the definitions, symbols and units (Clauses 2 and 3 of 1998 edition); -- Detail the test preparation (see Clause 2);
-- Detail the test procedure and appropriate adjustments are made on test temperature (see Clause 4; Clause 6 of 1998 edition);
-- Delete the grade B hot condition test;
-- Add the grades and marks of friction coefficients (Clause 6);
-- Add Table A.1 of Annex A;
-- Delete the Annex B (1998 edition) and changes into Annex B of this edition; -- Adjust the Annex C to 3.2.
The test methods in this Standard correspond to those in SAE J661:1997, Brake lining quality test procedure; the grades and marks of friction coefficients in this Standard correspond to those in SAE J866:2012, (r) friction coefficient identification and environmental marking system for brake linings and their technical contents are basically the same.
This Standard was proposed by the China Building Material Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 51 on Non-metallic Minerals and Products of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 406).

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the small sample bench test procedure and the grades and marks of friction coefficients for the friction wear of brake linings for automobile (hereinafter referred to as ?€?linings?€?).
This Standard applies to automobile disc brake linings and automobile drum brake linings.
This Standard does not apply to parking brake linings.
2 Test equipment
2.1 Test equipment functions
Test equipment is friction material small sample bench testing machines as shown in Figures 1 and 2. Testing machines shall have the following functions:
a) measuring the temperature of brake drum;
b) heating brake drum;
c) controlling brake drum heating speed;
d) only cooling brake drum from its rear side;
e) controlling the cooling speed of brake drum;
f) measuring the force of friction;
g) measuring the rotational speed of brake drum.
2.2 Temperature measuring instruments
Temperature measuring instruments consist of welded thermocouples, alloy metal rings, silver graphite carbon brushes and recording instruments with high input impedance.
