Bursting Disc Safety Devices for Gas Cylinders
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, materials, design, manufacturing
requirements, and test methods, inspection rules, marking, identification, packaging,
transportation and storage, exit-factory documents and usage requirements for bursting disc
safety devices for gas cylinders.
This Standard is applicable to bursting disc safety devices for gas cylinders of various structures,
filled with compressed gases, high (low) pressure liquefied gases, low-temperature liquefied
gases, adsorbed gases and liquids with a standard boiling point equal to or lower than 60 C,
and mixed gases (two or more gases).
2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable to the application of this document. In terms of
references with a specified date, only versions with a specified date are applicable to this
document. In terms of references without a specified date, the latest version (including all the
modifications) is applicable to this document.
GB/T 567.1 Bursting Disc Safety Devices - Part 1: Basic Requirement

GB/T 8335 Special Threads for Gas Cylinders
GB/T 17268 Non-refillable Steel Welded Cylinders for Industrial Use
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 bursting disc safety device
A non-reclosing pressure relief device composed of a bursting disc (or bursting disc assembly)
and a holder (or support ring). At the set bursting temperature, when the pressure difference on
both sides of the bursting disc reaches a pre-determined value, the bursting disc will
immediately act (rupture or fall off) and release the fluid medium.
3.2 bursting disc
In the bursting disc safety device, a pressure-sensitive component that quickly acts due to
overpressure.
During the bursting test of the bursting disc, the actual bursting pressure value at the moment
of bursting.
3.13 bursting temperature
When the bursting disc reaches the bursting pressure, the temperature of the diaphragm wall of
the bursting disc.
3.14 performance tolerance
The maximum allowable deviation of the actual test bursting pressure of the bursting disc
relative to the specified bursting pressure, that is, the ratio of the difference between the test
bursting pressure and the specified bursting pressure to the specified bursting pressure.
3.15 batch
A group of bursting discs with the same category, type, specifications, specified bursting
pressure and specified bursting temperature, and with identical materials (designation, batch
No. and specifications) and manufacturing process is considered as one batch.
3.16 cylinder test pressure
The hydraulic test pressure of gas cylinders. For gas cylinders undergoing air pressure test, it
refers to the pressure of air pressure test.
4 Materials
4.1 The materials used for the bursting discs shall have good corrosion resistance, uniform and
stable mechanical properties and thermal stability.
4.2 The maximum and minimum allowable operating temperatures of metals, non-metals and
coating (plating) materials used on the bursting discs shall comply with the stipulations of GB/T
567.1.
4.3 The materials used for components, such as: bursting discs, bursting disc holder rings and
screw plugs shall comply with the stipulations of corresponding national standards or industry
standards, and shall have quality certification documents (including quality certificates and
certificates of conformity) provided by the material manufacturing organization.
4.4 The materials used for bursting discs shall be re-inspected in accordance with the
stipulations of the corresponding material standards and design drawings, and can only be used
after reaching the requirements.
4.5 When the medium is corrosive to the materials of the bursting disc safety device, anti-
corrosion treatment measures, such as: corrosion-resistant protective film or coating (plating)
layer shall be adopted. The anti-corrosion treatment shall satisfy the following requirements:
a) When using an anti-corrosion protective film, it shall be ensured that the protective
film is airtight and provided in a set or as a whole with the bursting disc safety device;
b) The anti-corrosion measures shall be completed in the bursting disc safety device
manufacturing organization, and the measures cannot affect the design performance
indicators of the bursting disc safety device;
c) The anti-corrosion treatment shall be carried out before the performance inspection
of the bursting disc safety device.
5 Design
5.1 Specified Bursting Temperature and Specified Bursting Pressure
5.1.1 The specified bursting temperature of the bursting discs shall be the upper limit of the
ambient service temperature specified in the corresponding gas cylinder standards.
5.1.2 The specified bursting pressure of the bursting discs shall be determined in accordance
with the cylinder test pressure. For bursting discs used for refillable gas cylinders, it shall
generally not be greater than the cylinder test pressure; for bursting discs used for non-refillable
gas cylinders, it shall comply with the corresponding stipulations of GB/T 17268.
5.2 Performance Tolerance
The performance tolerance shall satisfy the stipulations of the corresponding gas cylinder
standards. If it is not specified in the gas cylinder standards, for bursting discs used for refillable
gas cylinders, the performance tolerance is 5%, and the lower limit of the specified bursting
pressure shall not be less than 1.05 times the temperature rise pressure of the gas cylinders; for
bursting discs used for non-refillable gas cylinders, the performance tolerance is 10%.
5.3 Clamping Elements
5.3.1 General requirements
The clamping elements shall be designed, manufactured and used in conjunction with the
bursting discs. When replacement is required, the bursting discs and clamping elements of the
original manufacturing organization shall be replaced as a set.
5.3.2 Design
The design of the clamping elements may adopt the following methods:
a) Design methods established through experience in similar projects;
b) Carry out pressure-bearing capacity test verification, and a pressure test at 1.5 times
the cylinder test pressure.
6 Manufacturing Requirements and Test Methods
