Foreword
GB/T 16422 Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory light sources includes four parts.
― Part 1. General guidance;
― Part 2. Xenon arc lamp;
― Part 3. Fluorescent UV lamp;
― Part 4. Open flame carbon arc lamp.
This Part is the second part of GB/T 16422.
This Part was drafted in accordance with rules given by GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 16422.2-1999 Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory light
sources Part 2. Xenon-arc sources. Compared with GB/T 16422.2-1999, the main
technical changes are as follows.
― Revise contents of chapter “Scope” (as shown in chapter 1 of this edition; chapter 1
of 1999 edition);
― Change “Quoted standard” to be “Normative reference”; and revise the quoted
documents to undated quoted documents (as shown in chapter 2 of this edition;
chapter 2 of 1999 edition);
― Revise contents of chapter “Principles” (as shown in chapter 3 of this edition;
chapter 3 of 1999 edition);
― Revise contents of chapter “Test devices”; name of chapter is changed to be
“Equipment” (as shown in chapter 4 of this edition; chapter 4 of 1999 edition);
― Revise contents of chapter “Test conditions” (as shown in chapter 6 of this edition;
chapter 6 of 1999 edition);
― Revise “Appendix A (Informative annex)” to be “Appendix A (Normative annex)”; and
replace the whole contents of appendix (as shown in Appendix A of this edition;
Appendix A of 1999 edition);
This Part, using translation method, equivalently adopts ISO 4892-2.2006 Plastics -
Methods of exposure to laboratory light sources - Part 2. Xenon-arc sources.
Our country’s documents that have consistency with the normative international
references are as follows.
Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory
light sources - Part 2. Xenon-arc sources
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 16422 specifies methods for exposing specimens to xenon-arc light in
the presence of moisture to reproduce the weathering effects that occur when materials
are exposed in actual end-use environments to daylight or to daylight filtered through
window glass.
The specimens are exposed to filtered xenon-arc light under controlled conditions
(temperature, humidity and/or wetting). Various types of xenon-arc light source and
various filter combinations may be used to meet different requirements.
Specimen preparation and evaluation of the results are covered in other International
Standards for specific materials.
General guidance is given in GB/T 16422.1.
NOTE. Xenon-arc exposures of paints and varnishes are described in ISO 11341.
2 Normative references
The articles contained in the following documents have become part of this document
when they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all the modifications
(including all corrections) or revisions made thereafter shall be applicable to this
document.
ISO 4582, Plastics - Determination of changes in colour and variations in properties after
exposure to daylight under glass, natural weathering or laboratory light sources
ISO 4892-1, Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory light sources - Part 1. General
guidance
3 Principle
3.1 A xenon arc, fitted with suitable filters and properly maintained, is used to simulate
the spectral power distribution of daylight in the ultraviolet (UV) and visible regions of the
spectrum.
