This Part of GB/T 15224 specifies the classification of coal based on dry basis ash (Ad) range, naming and inspection of ash. This Part is applicable to coal resource exploration and evaluation, as well as guidance on coal production and processing.

Foreword
GB/T 15224 “Classification for quality of coal” consists of three parts. - Part 1. Ash;
- Part 2. Sulfur content;
- Part 3. Calorific value.
This Part is Part 1 of GB/T 15224.
This Part replaces GB/T 15224.1-2010 “Classification for quality of coal - Part 1. Ash”.
Compared with GB/T 15224.1-2010, in addition to editorial modifications, the main technical deviations in this Part are as follows.
- added “GB/T 482” “GB/T 30732” “MT/T 1090” as references in normative
references (see Clause 2 of this Edition);
- deleted “GB/T 475” “GB/T 19494.1” “Procedures for coal sampling of coal resource exploration (formerly issued by the Ministry of Coal in 1979)” from normative references (see Clause 2 of this Edition);
- modified “medium ash” as “high ash”, “high ash” as “ultra-high ash” (see Table 1 of this Edition);
- added the note to the table that “if the ash is greater than 40%, the coal resource reserves shall not be calculated” (see Table 1 of this Edition); - deleted the classification of commercial ash (see Clause 4 of Edition 2010). This Part was proposed by China Coal Industry Association.
This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Coal of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 42).
