Die casting copper alloys and copper alloys die castings
1 Scope
This document specifies the representation method of die casting copper alloy grades,
the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging,
transportation, and storage of die casting copper alloys and copper alloy die castings.
This document applies to the manufacture and quality inspection of die casting copper
alloys and copper alloy die castings.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain the provisions which, through normative reference in
this document, constitute the essential provisions of this document. For the dated
referenced documents, only the versions with the indicated dates are applicable to this
document; for the undated referenced documents, only the latest version (including all
the amendments) is applicable to this document.
GB/T 228.1 Metallic materials - Tensile testing - Part 1: Method of test at room
temperature
GB/T 231.1 Metallic materials - Brinell hardness test - Part 1: Test method
GB/T 1958 Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Geometrical tolerance -
Verification
GB/T 2828.1 Sampling procedures for inspection by attributes - Part 1: Sampling
schemes indexed by acceptance quality limit (AQL) for lot-by-lot inspection
GB/T 2829 Sampling procedures and tables for periodic inspection by attributes
(Apply to inspection of process stability)
GB/T 3177 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) - Inspection of plain
workpiece sizes
GB/T 5121.1 Methods for chemical analysis of copper and copper alloys - Part 1:
Determination of copper content
GB/T 5121.3 Methods for chemical analysis of copper and copper alloys - Part 3:
Determination of lead content
5.3.2 Dimensional tolerances do not include draft angles. For non-processing surfaces,
the dimension of the female surface is based on the small end, the male surface is based
on the large end; for surfaces to be processed, the dimension of the female surface is
based on the large end, and the male surface is based on the small end.
5.3.3 The machining allowance shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions
of GB/T 6414-2017. If there are special regulations and requirements, the machining
allowance shall be indicated on the drawing.
5.4 Weight
When the purchaser has requirements for weight tolerance, the weight tolerance shall
comply with the provisions of MT6~MT8 in GB/T 11351-2017.
5.5 Surface quality of copper alloy die castings
5.5.1 The surface roughness of copper alloy die castings shall be in accordance with the
drawing requirements, and the unmarked parts shall comply with the provisions of
GB/T 6060.1.
5.5.2 Copper alloy die castings are not allowed to have cracks, misrun, porosity,
blowholes, or any penetrating defects visible to the naked eye.
5.5.3 Copper alloy die castings are allowed to have defects such as scratches, depression,
poured short, and veining, but the type, degree, and quantity of the defects shall be
agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser.
5.5.4 The gates, joint flashes, overflow ports, burs, ejector pin traces, etc. of copper
alloy die castings shall be cleaned, but traces are allowed to remain.
5.5.5 If there are no special provisions in the drawings, the positions that are related to
the settings of die casting processes (such as the position of the ejector pin, the position
of the parting line, the position of the gate and the overflow port) and can be removed
by machining in the post-procedures are determined by the supplier himself. If they
cannot be removed by machining or other methods in the post-procedures, they shall be
agreed upon between the supplier and the buyer.
5.6 Internal quality
5.6.1 When there are requirements for the air tightness, hydraulic tightness, internal
defects and items not listed in this document (including X-ray photos, non-destructive
testing, industrial CT, pressure-resistant test, and casting section) of copper alloy die
castings, they shall comply with buyer's technical requirements or agreements.
5.6.2 Under the condition that the use of the castings is not affected, the supplier may
impregnate and repair the castings with the consent of the purchaser.
6 Test methods
6.1 Chemical composition
6.1.1 The chemical composition inspection shall be carried out in accordance with the
provisions of GB/T 5121.1, GB/T 5121.3, GB/T 5121.5, GB/T 5121.7, GB/T
5121.9~5121.14, GB/T 5121.23; under the condition of ensuring the analysis accuracy,
it is allowed to use other methods; the chemical composition shall meet the
requirements in Table 1.
6.1.2 The chemical composition test is allowed to analyze the main components, and
carry out random inspection of impurities according to the requirements of the buyer.
6.2 Mechanical properties
6.2.1 The tensile test shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
228.1.
6.2.2 The Brinell hardness test shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of
GB/T 231.1.
6.2.3 Sample preparation shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
13822. When a test specimen cut from casting is used, the technical requirements such
as sampling position and sample specifications shall be agreed upon by both parties.
6.3 Dimensions and their tolerances
6.3.1 The geometric dimension inspection of copper alloy die castings shall be carried
out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 3177.
6.3.2 The geometric tolerance inspection of copper alloy die castings shall be carried
out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1958.
6.3.3 When the accuracy is satisfied, general or special measuring tools can be used for
inspection.
6.4 Weight
During mass production, no less than 10 products are randomly selected from the first
batch of qualified products jointly identified by both the supplier and the buyer, and the
average value of the actual weighed weights is used as the nominal weight.
6.5 Surface quality
6.5.1 The surface quality of copper alloy die castings shall be inspected visually or by
other appropriate methods.
