Foreword
GB/T 1499 “Steel for the reinforcement of concrete” is divided into three parts.
- Part 1. Hot rolled plain bars;
- Part 2. Hot rolled ribbed bars;
- Part 3. Welded fabric.
This Part is Part 1 of GB/T 1499.
This Part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part replaces GB/T 1499.1-2008 “Steel for the Reinforcement of Concrete
- Part 1. Hot Rolled Plain Bars”. As compared with GB/T 1499.1-2008, the main
changes are as follows.
- ADD some normative references;
- DELETE HPB235 designation and its related technical requirements;
- ADJUST the upper limit of S element content to 0.045%, and DELETE the
related technical requirements for residual elements in steel;
- DELETE 6.5 mm specification product and its related technical
requirements;
- ADD the requirement for bending per meter of straight bars;
- TIGHTEN weight deviation;
- ADD the measurement provisions when yield strength is not evident;
- ADD the provision that re-inspection is not permitted when weight deviation
is unacceptable;
- ADD the provision that protruding factory name and other surface markings
can be added on the surface of bars;
- DELETE Appendix A (normative appendix) “Method for determination of
total elongation of bars under the maximum force”.
This Part uses the redraft law to refer to ISO 6935-1.2007 “Steel for the
reinforcement of concrete - Part 1. Plain bars” for development. The degree of
consistency with ISO 6935-1.2007 is not equivalent.
Steel for the reinforcement of concrete -
Part 1. Hot rolled plain bars
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 1499 specifies the terms and definitions, designation,
ordering content, dimensions, shape, weight and permissible deviation,
technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking,
and quality certificate of hot rolled plain bars to be used as reinforcement in
concrete (hereafter known as bars for short).
This Part is applicable to hot rolled straight and coil plain bars to be used as
reinforcement in concrete.
This Part is not applicable to the recycled bars produced by rerolling of finished
steel.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Hot rolled plain bars
The finished bars which are shaped by hot rolling, and of which the cross
section is usually round and the surface is plain.
3.2 Characteristic value
The quantile value corresponding to a prescribed probability in an unlimited
number of inspections.
4 Designation
4.1 The characteristic value of yield strength of the bars is Grade 300.
8.5 Rounding off and judgment of numerical values
The rounding off and judgement of numerical values of inspection results shall
comply with the provisions of YB/T 081.
9 Inspection rules
9.1 Classification of inspection
The inspection of bar is divided into characteristic value inspection and delivery
inspection.
9.2 Characteristic value inspection
9.2.1 The characteristic value inspection applies to the following circumstances.
a) Supplier inspection of product quality control;
b) Inspection requested by the demander and agreed upon by the supplier
and the demander;
c) Third-party product certification and arbitration inspection.
9.2.2 The characteristic value inspection shall be carried out in accordance with
the rules given in Appendix A.
9.3 Delivery inspection
9.3.1 Scope of application
The delivery inspection is applicable to the inspection of lot acceptance of bars.
9.3.2 Lot grouping rules
9.3.2.1 The bars shall be checked and accepted in lots. Each lot shall be made
up of the bars of the same designation, the same furnace pot number, and the
same dimensions. The weight of each lot is usually no more than 60 t. For the
part in excess of 60 t, for each additional 40 t (or a remainder less than 40 t),
ADD one tensile test sample and one bending test sample.
9.3.2.2 It is allowed that the mixed lot is made up of different furnace pot
numbers of the same designation, the same smelting process, and the same
pouring procedure. The difference between the carbon content of each furnace
