Foreword
Clause 4, Clause 5, Subclause 6.1, Clause 12, Clause 13 and Clause 16 of this
Standard are identical to or modifies the corresponding ISO standards. For the
modified content of ISO standards, the technical differences between this Standard
and the ISO standard are identified by vertical lines on the margins of the terms in
which they are covered, and a list of technical differences and the causes is given in
Annex B.
This Standard is the integration of GB/T 12030-1989, GB/T 12031-1989, GB/TT
13173.1-1991, GB/TT 13173.2-2000, GB/T 13173.3 ~ 13173.6-1991, GB/T 13173.7-
1993, GB/T 13175-1991, GB/T 13176.1 ~ 13176.3-1991, and the analysis method for
the determination of three common components, i.e. 4A zeolite content, alkaline
protease relative enzyme activity or content, available chlorine content in detergents
are added.
This Standard replaces the following national standards.
GB/T 12030-1989 Determination of particle size of powered detergents;
GB/T 12031-1989 Determination of total phosphorus pentoxide content in
detergents - Quinoline phosphomolybdate gravimetric method;
GB/T 13173.1-1991 Method of sample division for detergents;
GB/T 13173.2-2000 Determination of total active matter content in detergents;
GB/T 13173.3-1991 Determination of non-ionic surface active agents in detergents
- Ion exchange method;
GB/T 13173.4-1991 Separation and determination of different forms of phosphate
in detergents - Ion exchange column chromatography;

GB/T 13173.6-1991 Determination of foaming power for synthetic detergents -
Ross-Miles method;
GB/T 13173.7-1993 Soaps and detergents - Determination of EDTA (chelating
agent) content - Titrimetric method;
GB/T 13175-1991 Determination of apparent density of powdered detergent -
Method by measuring the mass of a given volume;

Titrimetric method.
Main changes of this Standard after revision are as follows.
- This Standard is the integration of the repeated provisions related to the above 13
national standards;
- The revised contents form the Clauses 4 to 16 of this Standard and some editorial
errors in the original standard are corrected at the same time;
- By referencing to the British Standard BS 3762-3.10.1989 and the American
Standard ASTM D 2023.1989 (2003), the determination of toluene sulfonate
content in detergents in detergents (GB/T 13173.5-1991) is revised;
- After referencing to the relevant bibliography, the analysis method for the
determination of three common components, i.e. 4A zeolite content, alkaline
protease relative enzyme activity or content, available chlorine content in
detergents are formulated, which form the content of Clauses 17, 18 ,19 of this
Standard;
- The correspondence between the relevant clause of this Standard AND the
replaced standard and the source are listed in Annex A of this Standard.
Annex A and Annex B of this Standard are informative.

Surface active agents - Detergents - Testing methods
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for 16 indicators, i.e. sample division, particle
size, total phosphorus pentoxide, total active matter, non-ionic surface active agent,
different forms of phosphate, toluene sulfonate, foaming power, chelating agent
(EDTA), apparent density, whiteness, moisture and volatile matter, 4A zeolite content,
active oxygen, alkaline protease activity and available chlorine of surface active agents
and detergents.
This Standard applies to the indicator determination of surface active agent and
detergent products. When using the method specified in this Standard to determine
the sample, the appropriate method shall be selected according to the characteristics
of the specific sample.
