3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 sunflower seed
The seeds of Helianthus Linn. in the Asteraceae family.
3.2 pure kernel ratio
The proportion of sunflower kernels of sunflower seeds in the mass fraction of the sample, of which the unsound kernels are calculated as half of their number. NOTE: Unsound kernels refer to sunflower kernels that are damaged but still have use value, including broken kernels, sprouted kernels, moldy kernels, injured kernels, spotted kernels, etc. Broken kernels refer to the seeds that are flattened and damaged and their kernels are broken; sprouted kernels refer to the seeds whose buds or radicles break through the seed coats; moldy kernels refer to the seeds whose surfaces are moldy; injured kernels refer to the seeds that are damaged by worms and their kernels are injured; spotted kernels refer to the seeds with diseased spots on kernels. 3.3 oil content
The proportion of the crude fat of sunflower seeds in the mass fraction (in dry basis) of the sample.
3.4 useless material
Substances other than sunflower seeds, and sunflower seeds of no use value. NOTE: The useless materials include throughs, inorganic impurities, and organic impurities. Throughs refer to the material that can pass through a sieve with 3.5 mm diameter round holes; inorganic impurities refer to minerals (such as sand, cinder, bricks and tiles, soil) and other inorganic substances; organic impurities refer to useless sunflower seeds, heterogeneous oilseeds, grains, and other organic matter. 4 Categories
According to the use, sunflower seeds are divided into two categories: edible sunflower seeds and sunflower seeds for oil.
NOTE: Sunflower seeds for oil refer to the seeds of oilseed sunflower (oil sunflower). The seeds are small and plump, the shell is thin and black, and the oil content is high. It shall be carried out according to GB/T 5490.
7.2 Inspection batch
The sunflower seeds of the same type, the same origin, the same harvest year, the same transport unit, and the same storage unit are regarded as one batch.
7.3 Grading rules
7.3.1 The pure kernel ratio and oil content shall meet the corresponding grade requirements in Table 1 and Table 2, and other indexes shall meet the requirements of relevant national regulations.
7.3.2 When the grading index fails to meet the requirements, it shall be downgraded to the next grade. Products whose grading indexes reach the third grade, but other indexes do not meet the requirements, are classified as off-grade.
8 Labeling
The product name, grade, place of origin, year of harvest, and country of production shall be marked on the packaging or accompanying documents.
9 Packaging, storage, and transportation
9.1 Packaging
The packaging shall be clean, firm, undamaged, tightly sealed, and strong, and shall not leak; it shall not bring pollution and abnormal smell to the product. When gunny bags are used for packaging, the packaging shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 24904; when plastic woven sacks are used for packaging, the packaging shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 8946.
9.2 Storage
Sunflower seeds shall be stored in a clean, dry, rain-proof, moisture-proof, insect-proof, rodent-proof, and odor-free warehouse, and shall not be mixed with toxic and harmful substances that may pollute sunflower seeds or substances with high water content during storage.
9.3 Transportation
The means of transportation shall be clean and be able to prevent sun exposure, rain, moisture, pollution, and label peeling-off, so as to reduce transportation loss; sunflower seeds shall not be mixed with corrosive, toxic, or odorous substances for transportation.
