1 Scope
This Standard specifies the determination of specific gravity of raw milk. This Standard is applicable to the determination of specific gravity of raw milk. 2 Principle
Test the sample by a densitometer; specific gravity can be obtained by checking the table according to the readings.
3 Apparatus
3.1 Densitometer: 20??C/4??C.
3.2 Glass cylinder or 200mL~250mL measuring cylinder: the height of the cylinder shall be greater than the length of the densitometer; its diameter shall be such that the distance between the periphery of the cylinder and the inner wall of it is no less than 5mm when it is sunk into the densitometer.
4 Analytical Procedures
Mix and adjust the sample at a temperature of 10??C~25??C; carefully pour into the glass cylinder; do not make foam and measure the temperature of sample. Carefully place the densitometer into the sample to a considerable scale of 30??; then let is float naturally, but not in contact with the inner wall of the measuring cylinder. Stand for 2min~3min; the eyes horizontally look at the height of the surface of the raw milk; read the value. According to sample temperature and the densitometer readings, check the Table 1; then convert into the degrees at 20??C.
