Foreword
The 4.1~4.3, 4.4.1, 4.5, Chapter 6 in this Standard are mandatory, while the rest
are recommended.
The consistence between this Standard and Japanese Industrial Standard JIS K6366.
1998 Motorcycle Tyres (Japanese Version) is not equivalent.
This Standard replaced GB 518-1997 Motorcycle Tyres.
The major technical differences between this Standard and GB 518-1997 are as
follows.
--- Cancel the provision that the minimum damage energy index can be reduced by
60% in the following two cases, namely, “bias tyre with skeletal materials to be
cotton or rayon corde” and “when the hemispherical indenter reached the rim,
and all measuring points were not destroyed, and the measured value didn’t
reach the value specified in the Table” (see 4.2.1 of 1997 version);
--- Add the assessment indicators for the minimum damage energy against the 8PR
tyre (see 4.2.1 of this version);
--- Modify the high-speed performance requirements (see 4.2.3 of this version);
--- Add the label requirements for the adhesion tyre (see Chapter 6 of this version);
--- Cancel the provisions of sampling and inspection rules, package, transportation
and storage (see Chapter 5, 7.2 of 1997 version).
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Tyres and Rims (SAC/TC 19).
This Standard entrusts National Technical Subcommittee for Standardization of
Motorcycle and Cycle Tyres and Rims for explanation.
Drafting organizations of this Standard. Guangzhou No.1 Rubber Factory, Cheng Shin
Rubber(Xiamen) Ind., Ltd., and Guangzhou Rubber Industrial Product Research
Institute.
Chief drafting staffs of this Standard. Chen Qiufa, Li Yinhua, Xiao Chuhua, Hang

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, and
marks of the motorcycle tyres.
This Standard applies to the new motorcycle pneumatic tyres.
2 Normative References
The following documents contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, become the provisions of this Standard. For dated references, their
subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this
Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are
applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this
Standard.
